My husband and I took our two teenage daughters for High Tea at the Empress. It was the first time they had been to High Tea. The tea menu blew them away and the way the tea was poured and kept warm kept them mesmerised. The food was delicious, but way too much for all of us. The location and... More

We've been enjoying afternoon tea at the empress for the past 20 years. This is the first time I walked away saying I would probably not come back. The price of $79 for food and tea less fresh and delicious than years past. We didn't get the strawberry shortcake nor did we get tea sandwiches as good as years past.... More

It was fun to finally take part in this ritual! We booked our sitting for a Saturday afternoon and weren't disappointed. The tea is presented just so, with a timer specific to the leaves. The food was good as well- a bottom tier of savoury meat, chicken and fish choices, a middle tier of scones with cream and preserves and... More

Although the food service was likely the best tea I've ever had, the real treat here is the lovely room. The Empress is a magnificent property and the staff is first rate.

My Wife and I have partaken of this ritual before and it was without doubt the highlight of our visit. Good memories can become exaggerated with time but this time round was exactly as before. The food was as delicate and delicious and the tea exceptional. The service was professional and warm without being overwhelming. Well worth the price.

I took my kids to the Empress for tea once many years ago, but my daughter couldn't recall it, so I decided we should splash out and treat ourselves. When I booked it, I was asked whether we were celebrating any special occasion, so I mentioned my daughter's 16th birthday coming up in a couple of weeks. I was so... More

High Tea (now called the Tea) is old school with tasty meats, seafood, desserts and, of course, tea (coffee for those who want it). Service the best and the atmosphere very old school.

We had afternoon tea here over the weekend and the food is great and the staff are wonderful, but the whole experience has definitely gone down hill in the year since we were here last. We came last year for tea and were presented with a small starter, plus 6 sandwiches, nice warm scone, and 6 desserts plus a complementary... More

While the experience of the upscale tea room - with all its pomp and circumstance - was as expected, the Tea at the Empress seems to have lost something of late. When I was last here a year ago, tea included (for each) a starter, 6 sandwiches, a scone and 6 desserts, with a small complementary box of tea for... More

I generally go here about once a year with my daughter. Very relaxing and enjoyable. The wait staff is very good as is the tea and food. Lovely China too.
