The tasting menu was great and the wine selection was good too. The location was a bit sketchy to be honest - I wouldn't have been keen to try to find it in the dark.

7 years ago the restaurant started it was certainly good, but today the opposite - maybe the owner has changed. The wines cheap and quality bad and the sausage and cheese specialties - at home in the fridge most of the guests probably have a better selection and quality. If you love wine and good food, this is certainly the... More

A fantastic tasting room in a side alley of downtown Vancouver that servers cheeses, cured meats & housemade condiments with regional wine pairings. Such a great choice of options and totally delicious choices. I loved building my own cheese, meat and condiment platter and the ambiance was very relaxing and cosy - great for hours and hours of chatting with... More

We came to Salt as part of a girls weekend in Vancouver. Salt offers a meat plate, a cheese plate, or a combination of the two, along with a selection of condiments. You can also select flights of wine or mead to be paired. The meat is really a variety of salamis. You get approximately 6 thin slices of each.... More

Almost literally a 'hole in the wall' -- down a downtown Vancouver alley, quite hidden from view (could really do with a better sign; I had a guide or I would not have seen it). Should be busier because the concept is great -- you choose cheese varieties and/or meats, and they come with condiments to match the selection. We... More

I've been here 3 and now 4 times over the past 5 years and was impressed the first three times but now, not so impressed. The wine selection, white or red, was about 98% BC and because I live in BC and have been to a majority of the wineries it made it very hard to choose from the menu.... More

Knowledgeable staff. Delicious pairings designed for savouring. Pricey but high quality. The location is sketchy but definitely unique. You'll be glad you braved Blood Alley to find the Salt Tasting Room - a memorable spot. We went for aperitifs ...ideally, you should go when not rushed so you have lots of time to enjoy a wine flight and cheese plate.... More

This place is awesome! We were friends and acquaintances. We wanted a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy some fine food. We had just that! The waitress was of utmost help!! We sampled so many things and they paired the wines for us. My advice: give them latitude and enjoy!!! They know what they're doing.

I visited the Salt Tasting Room with friends for the first time this past weekend. Our first impression was not a good one. We were seated at the bar despite having a reservation. When we asked if we could have the next available table the male host was pretty rude and left us feeling uncomfortable. After explaining that we would... More

Staying in Gastown

Neighbourhood Profile
Gastown
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
