We frequently eat in this Japanese restaurant as our kids go to the school near this area. Since it's summer time we seldom go to Vancouver as family. Anyhow, all of us were craving for Japanese food and so we decided to drive to Nikkyu after our kids activities. We were never disappointed every time we visit this place. Two... More

Main Street has become a funky, hipster street lined with a great option of restaurants. This particular sushi place is nothing fancy but the food is INCREDIBLE! We sat outside and ordered various dishes and all were perfect including the pitcher of Saporo beer! Service was fast and friendly. If you're looking for a walk by sushi place with fresh... More

We suspect the 'toro sushi' was not tuna but escolar. It wasn't fatty or pink, but typical translucent grey and sliced to look like toro. That and the photo of toro sushi on the wall was one of the first google images I found for 'toro sushi' online... This mislabeling of fish has to stop. Cheap beer!

I was looking with my son for a place to eat, an unplanned day entered this restaurant and order our usual Japanese meal- beef teriyaki. I believe what we got was the worst we have ever ate- the meat was under cooked in some parts, there was no flavor to anything. my son also ordered California roll and said this... More

We enjoyed the atmosphere of patio seating along with being able to plug in your own music. Your own party. The food was good. The service was good. The owner was quite friendly. Good reasonable prices.

Been going there for years. Never been disappointed. Not the place you would go for gourmet Japanese food but a good deal for everyday sushi and other Japanese food. Had fun with their calamari karaage the other day - very filling. Relaxed and relaxing atmosphere, a good place to come after work to chill out for a moment.

We often order from here. It is reliably good and consistent. The kids like it. Not much innovative but for a place close to our house that is not too expensive it is good. You have to pay extra like many places to get the wild salmon rather than farmed salmon that is causing so many environmental problems (see biologist... More

Neighbourhood Profile
South Main
South Main, or SoMa, is a neighbourhood in upswing. Inhabited by young humanitarian professionals in converted lofts and studio apartments, what was once an industrial centre is now a wellspring of vintage and eco fashion shops, contemporary sawdust-floor galleries, craft beer joints, and basement acting studios. All set to an Art Deco background with a strong blue collar sensibility underpinning each new pop-up and foodie trend, SoMa is on the rise.
