We waited an hour to get in here on a Saturday night and it was worth it with every bite. We were a family of 5 with 2 kids. Our kids loved it as well! We had Karaage, Fried Ebi, grilled miso black cod, calamari, eggplant, tuna, and a couple other dishes . For dessert we shared the coconut ice... More

My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant to celebrate two years of being together. Although we had not booked, the server made sure that they could find us a table to make our evening special. The lychee cocktails were to die for, the food was absolutely exquisite and the service was in good time with very happy waiting staff. We... More

The ambiance and energy when you enter the restaurant is fun and welcoming, which is properly reflected in the diversity of the menu. There are many great options for everyone, though the vegetarian selection could be a bit stronger. Unfortunately, as we were a group of 8, the service we received was very slow (and that is putting it nicely).... More

First time for us to try this place. Very welcoming and can be loud if you are not familiar the Japanese ways. And I just loved it! Servers are awesome and the food options are great. Be adventurous and try their specials.

We went there for supper, no reservation. We were able to get a table. The staff was very friendly, and explained the menu. Service was good. We very much enjoyed the food, good serving sizes and reasonable prices. The tables were a bit too close together, which made conversation a little difficult. I definitely would come back.

We were luckily to get a table at 730 PM with no reservations. A table cancelled before us so we immediately grabbed a spot. The restaurant is very popular as it filled up almost immediately. We ordered cheese bibimbap, sea urchin over rice which were all served on clay pots. We also got black cod and spicy squid which was delicious... More

This restaurant came highly recommended. The food was incredible and I will thoroughly recommend the black cod and the octopus balls. However, communications with our server was challenging as his English was poor. This in turn meant he was not overly attentive so it took an eternity to get his attention and then to get what we had ordered !

I always search the place I want to go for a meal, Otokomae seems fine on all the platforms, so I tried. The food was not as exciting and the bartender can not make a glass of old fashion...I wouldn't say it's horrible but I may should have lowered my expectation...

This place is extremely popular and I recommend that you make reservations. We were a group of 9 without reservations and the only reason we were seated was because we arrived before the dinner crowd showed up and we were told that we would only have our table for 2 hours. Izakaya restaurants offer small plates that are meant to... More

We were a big group and some of us were coming by Skytrain, so we chose Guu Otokomae. It is very convenient being close to Seabus as well. We had a table right beside a large open window looking over the Water St., and it was very nice. All of the food that we ordered came in a timely manner... More

Staying in Gastown

Neighbourhood Profile
Gastown
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
