A little hard to find, towards the water off Water Street in Gastown. Look for the signs. An easy walk from Cruise Ship Terminal, or all of downtown. A local establishment now for 20-years, offering Italian themed classic and original food with pastas and wood-fired oven pizzas. Downstairs opens into many spacious areas allowing groups from many to a cozy... More

If you are looking for a restaurant that has withstood the test of many decades and serves fantastic food at a reasonable price, then this is it. Dinner at Al Porto was an absolute treat. With a great menu selection, all four of us had different dishes and everyone was raving. The lamb shanks, shrimp with risotto, beet risotto with... More

Really good food! Nice vibe, not fussy. Crab was perfectly done and served nice and hot (I personally hate cold shellfish) Decor could use some updating, but that's my only complaint.

This is a pleasant Gastown restaurant with very nice low-key decor, and tables placed a few feet from each other. The menu is large, and there were many choices. My husband chose the cioppino. He found it to be generously supplied with various seafoods but a little bland. I chose the chicken piccata which was disappointing. I make better chicken... More

We wandered in here after a short visit at the Christmas Market. Hungry but not enticed by the high carb fare at the market we decided to side trip to Gastown and see what we could find. Hadn't been here before--not sure why but will definitely return. Loved the feel of the restaurant more authentic Italy than most. The service... More

We loved our meal here ... accompanied by a "primitivo/malvasia" red wine. Well worth a visit for good Italian cuisine.

We had dinner here last night and thoroughly enjoyed our evening. The service was excellent and the food was very good. We were there for four hours enjoying a relaxed meal and never felt rushed as the table was ours for the night. Hadn't been back here for about three years but will definitely come back as seems to be... More

We remembered this restaurant from a long-ago date so... The food was good. Not remarkable, but good. It's a big menu. The service was fine. There is nothing that separates this restaurant from many others.

We've enjoyed many a repast at Al Porto for years on end. The other day we experienced the most terrible evening ever. The female server was totally non-attentive and would continuously interrupt our conversation by talking to use from as far away as 15 feet away. Other times she would totally ignore us and return to the receptionist to gossip... More

My wife and I called in by chance looking for a "burger change" and found Al Porto. The service was friendly and efficient - the food was delicious. I had veal scaloppini and my wife had seafood pasta, accompanied by a fine British Colombian Pinot Gris. Highly recommended

Staying in Gastown

Neighbourhood Profile
Gastown
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
