We recently revisited Pastis after two decades - yes, this is a bistro that has staying power. Still the charming room, attentive service, and very good menu. We used to love the dinners there, and this time, tried the lunch twice, and both times, quite satisfying. Salad: good; duck: excellent; no dessert but the menu was tempting. A good place... More

Lovely spot for lunch or dinner. Very extensive menu with attentive staff. The mussels were absolutely wonderful as well as the French onion soup. The room has a very warm feel..very French with a great ambiance. I would highly recommend this venue for anyone in Vancouver!

We were 12 for brunch and arrived as the restaurant opened. The service was impeccable, very friendly and professional. And what a lovely room - bright and not too noisy so we could easily carry on conversation. Most ordered bennies, with a couple ordering hash. I went for the chicken and brie croissant which was served with the best frites... More

Visited Pastis during Dine Out Vancouver and was impressed. The restaurant was sold out, but they maintained high standards in both food and service. Appetizers were Rillettes du man and tuna carpaccio - both presented well and delicious. Mains were Bouillabaisse and Wagyu Beef Cheeks - both excellent. Service was friendly and very attentive, despite a very busy dining room.

Sad to say Pastis now has new owners who are obviously learning about what they bought, what works and what does not work. Unfortunately all of this experience comes at the expense of the customer which is us; the people who pay. We have been to this restaurant many times but it is now time to give it a break... More

We braved the snow and icy roads on New Year's Eve...an hour to travel from our home to the restaurant (normally a 20 minute drive). There was no real welcome from the host and we were quickly seated. Having enjoyed New Year's dinners there for a number of years we have come to expect the warmth and friendliness of previous... I really liked this restaurant! It had a lovely atmosphere, the service was great and we really enjoyed our meal. We had escargots and steak tartare for our appetizers, calf's liver and beef tenderloin for mains and shared a baked alaska for dessert. Everything was excellent, we will be back!

Lovely atmosphere average food. The only special was two appetizers and the chef lacks talent. Service was excellent but the food need to be ramped up.

The service was great as was the atmosphere but the food was disappointing. I love authentic french food but each dish was just a little "off" - perhaps too canadianized. I ordered frisee salad with lardon/egg and the dressing was too heavy and creamy and there was way too much lardon. And then had the pumpkin ravioli which was good... More

Staying in Kitsilano

Neighbourhood Profile
Kitsilano
Kitsilano is one of Vancouver's most transformative neighbourhoods. With a long history of coffee culture and poetry readings, its days of flower children and buskers may be long-gone, but not without leaving their mark on the number of organic restaurants and fair-trade cafes in the area. At the centre of Kitsilano ("Kits" for short) the almost idyllic expanse of Kits Beach offers the opportunity for a relaxed afternoon of beach volleyball or sunbathing. Along with the beachfront, nearby public pools and trendy street-beats have driven up the homeowners prices, making it a haven for stylish home goods stores, from design and furniture, to supplies and appliances. The multitude of both families and public spaces also make it a happening neighbourhood in the summer, when festivals and fairs take to Kits' streets.
