We ordered Easter dinner (take out due to Covid restrictions). 2 course dinner.2 chicken liver pate, scallops & prawns entree, and steak entree. Even after driving home to Richmond and having our own salad and appetizers first, the steak was still pink medium. Delicious pate...with hot mustard. 2 jumbo prawns and three large scallops with mashed potatoes and spinach. Delicious. We had a birthday dinner here in the fall of 2019 and have no hesitation in recommending Absinthe Bistro. Excellent food!More

We are a couple of seniors originally from Europe who consider themselves reasonably well versed in good continental cuisine having travelled extensively in Europe over the past decades, with a particular emphasis on south-west France. We are writing to share our extreme disappointment with the...quality of food at Absinthe Bistro. Not living in Vancouver, we read reviews of French-style restaurants and chose Absinthe for a celebratory dinner. We chose from the offered three-course prix-fixe menu and were essentially disappointed with the whole meal. The cliché frog legs were like rubber (incidentally, in all our visits to France we have never encountered frog legs in menus) and the rabbit equally so. The final course for dessert - a rice pudding was not fresh, shockingly cold and overly sweet; after the first bite it was left and destined to become waste. Incredible, but our second dessert of cream brulee received a low grade as well despite the enthusiastic comments from the server. All in all this bistro cannot be recommended, and certainly did not represent value for money. The cost for two - meal $55 each plus drinks and taxes was $188. Not only did the evening suffer on its own account, but the previous evening we had dined elsewhere in Vancouver, again a prix-fixe menu, this time five courses for $49 p.p. which was of immeasurably better quality and value. We appreciate that these are difficult times for restaurants but nevertheless there is no excuse for this quality at such a price.More

We had crab cakes are they were very good. I was expecting two but only one. We ordered the pate on the side and it was ok, lacked flavour The land shank was better than compared to sablefish which had a fishy taste. Absinthe cocktails...were a real disappointment. The food was brought to the table by I suppose the girl chefs as opposed to the one lone waiter. It was ok not great as I was expecting from the reviews.More

A staff of mine keep telling me about how good this restaurant , finally we were in the area for meeting ,so I went along , this restaurant is not your average 5 stars French restaurant ,it is run by Husband and wife team ,...small restaurant with small patio ,do not impress me ,but honestly I do get board eating Chinese ,Japanese ,for the last few weeks , I and looking forward for my Escargot , the decor is very modern cozy ,due to the Covid 19 ,they only operating 50% capacity , safety plan nicely done , my biggest surprise is the menu is quite small option , no app ,no Escargot ,in a French restaurant !!!! they only have prix set two course diner under $50 ,or Three set dinner under $60 , with the current pandemic , all restaurants struggling to stay afloat , excellent concept ,with prix set menu ,and husband and wife team , half the battle you already won ! very creative , I choose the two course , the octopus for starter, the main dish is Beef Tenderloin ,(MR ) wow ,full of flavour and well balance with the heavenly ingredients very impressed with quality of the cooking ! , each dishes is perfected ,eating a good French food is a art ! Fabulous ,the service is friendly ,wow ! I will be back for sure ,the husband told me he will change a new set of menu in November , I really enjoyed the dinner ,I totally forgot my Escargot ! so if you a foodie like me ,looking for a great French cooking ! this is the place !very affordable ! highly recommend .More

This was our first visit since covid hit . We came with another couple ( 4 altogether ) Clearly they are being hurt because they have eliminated at least half the seating . But the food and the service seem even better than before and...I would not have thought that possible . We started with the crab dish starter and it was a knock out . Then the scallops and prawns which just might have been the best I have ever had . Finally the Creme brûlée WAS the best I’ve had . Clearly these folks deserve their rating of #2 in Vancouver . AND I have not mentioned the perfect service . Not cheap but worth every penny .More

My husband and I were celebrating our 30th Anniversary and some dear friends decided to treat us to dinner from this great restaurant. Due to the shut down, they ordered take out. It was the most delicious meal.. everything cooked to perfection... the beef tenderloin,...the pan seared scallops were cooked perfectly. The molten lava dessert and the creme brulee were absolutely the best! Thank you Absinthe for continuing to offer your great food at this challenging time.More

We are bored eating in all the time so we ordered a take-out dinner and wine from Absinthe and it was all delicious! The scallops and steak were as good as eating in the restaurant, with the various sauces in labelled containers which was thoughtful...and convenient. The chocolate lava cake came with homemade vanilla ice cream which was packaged in a container set over ice cubes - very clever! Highly recommend a dinner from Absinthe as an alternative to cooking and cleaning at home every night!More

As I'm sure you know, all restaurants in Vancouver are closed due to the Coronavirus, but they are allowed to provide a takeout service. Eating at Absinthe is a delight, but today we ordered takeout and we were not disappointed. Absolutely delicious and cooked to...perfection. Please go and support this restaurant, and others, during these crazy times.More

I have been going to Absinthe Bistro for years. The food is always excellent, and there is always something for myself and my guests on the 'limited menu'. The cozy atmosphere of the old location has carried over to the new one. However, what always...stands out for me is the lovely owner who greets every guest like a friend, yet makes a person feel special.More
