My brother and I go here every Sunday for a "long brunch." Service is always amazing, beer is always cold, and menu is always interesting. Nice to get out of the CBD for a second and unwind on the other side of the bridge. Merchants is intimate and they do everything with an attention to detail that is beautiful to... More

This is a very casual place with a great view of all the activity on Commercial Drive. Wine list is a bit sparse. No glasses of decent Reisling, Pinot Gris or Sauvignon Blanc. The cheese plate and Dick tostadas are good. Prices are high but nice atmosphere and friendly service.

Walked by after stopping for a bottle of wine to take to my hotel room, but the bar and bistro-style tables an the lighting was so inviting, I marched right in and sat at the bar. The owner was welcoming and attentive and the atmosphere was great. Happy hour oysters were fantastic and served with a good mignonette (@ a... More

We travelled out from Downtown Vancouver with a friend on his recommendation. On Sunday afternoon we were told that they were not serving oysters as there was a football game on the television. Only a limited drinks and food menu. Might still have been a bar but hardly an oyster bar. Didn't matter that much as we had been to... More

The staff here could not have been more accommodating as we explained that not only did we want to eat, but that we had misjudged our travel time to a nearby theatre and had a considerable wait. They welcomed us and encouraged us to take our time - which we did - with servings from their small plates choices. The... More

Spent an evening with some customers and had a great time. The server started off by saying that there were only 3 burgers left and since I had heard that the menu item of choice I ordered one on the spot. It was, to say the least, a very fabulous burger with lots of flavours! The oyster sauce was amazing,... More

I order oysters and beef tartare. oysters were ok but the beef tartar was a disaster. The taste was weird with a lot of vinegar as if they wanted to camouflage the smell of the meat. Very small portion for price plus they served on a toast but the bread was all wet and smoochy. NOT GOOD AT ALL. Only... More

Oysters are always a draw, as is a patio in the summer. We came here on the recommendation of a friend to eat oysters and appetizers on a warm summer evening and waited and waited and waited for our oysters (nearly a full hour)! While we ordered other appetizers, those were slow to come (2 arrived BEFORE our wine) and... More

I like oysters, so when a friend booked this place to celebrate his birthday, I was excited. We were a group of ten people. I had sweet tea which was actually really good. I ordered a half dozen oysters, tagliatelle with prawns and strawberry panna cotta - I didn't go for the set menu because to me it makes no... More

Went for an early dinner & by the time we left, the place was packed. Great vibe, very friendly and attentive service. Decent wine list, and the food was excellent. They offer 3 set price menus, ranging from $34 for 3 courses, to $42 for 4 courses, which is pretty good value (may need to pay a few extra dollars... More

Staying in Commercial Drive

Neighbourhood Profile
Commercial Drive
Commercial Drive, also called "The Drive," comprises of twelve sauntering blocks of modest and unfussy counter-culture. Straddling the line between sophisticated and unadorned, it is favoured by students, artists, writers, designers, and start-ups, and suffused throughout with a healthy off-beat counter-culture. The kind of neighbourhood which well-springs thought-revolutions and has the odd bit of self-aware graffiti, Commercial Drive has resisted gentrification in favor of continuing to build a thriving den of affordable multiculturalism. Once known as Vancouver's "Little Italy," it has also been the immigration point for Guatemalans, Hondurans, and Portuguese to the city. The resulting hodgepodge makes for poetry readings in espresso cafes, social debates in early-open bakeries, and eco-activism posters pinned up in the many multi-ethnic markets in the area. Commercial Drive is where you go to feel like a local, and if you have them, bring the kids – The Drive has a number of bookshops, toy stores, and attractions to get them involved too.
