Selected this Japanese restaurant out of the 3 on the same block because it looked nice inside. My teenager and I opted for udon - tempura and Nabeyaki. They arrived piping hot. We both thought that the soup base was yummy. The teenager was very pleased with the light tempura batter on the yam tempera (special request) and could not... More

My wife and I stopped in when the line up for Kishimoto was too long. It turned out to be a good choice. Had a salmon and crab salad which was salmon sashimi and what seemed like canned crab. Garnished with blueberries and raspberries with roasted garlic slivers. Despite the crab, the rest of the salad worked well. Ordered two... More

Great restaurant right on the drive. Great tasting food even for those who dont eat fish. Lots of possibilities. Great prices. Always busy, best to have reservations. Great with kids. We have been coming here at least once a month for the past 3 years.

Every time we eat at Tatsu, we are impressed. The menu has so many geniusly crafted dishes that you've never seen before in a sushi restaurant. Their even combination of taste and presentation makes Tatsu the #1 choice for Japanese food on Commercial Drive. I've not once been disappointed.

We got the sashimi platter and sushi platter to share between 4 of us and were absolutely thrilled with the food! It's incredibly fresh, gorgeous presentation, and delicous!! This has made it onto my top sushi in Vancouver list for sure!

Great spot on Commercial Drive and is popular among locals. We tried it out and found it a great value for the price. We will return

Ever since moving back to Vancouver, this little restaurant has become one of my favorite sushi places in town. The price vs quality has been excellent to date (appx. 5 visits to date and couple take outs). We have mostly limited our culinary experience at this restaurant to sushi, sashimi, and rolls, however the menu appears to have a nice... More

I ve been once, definitely going back. Nice large sophisticated menu! Affordable prices for everyone. Nice sushi combos for 3-4 people. Usually in Asian place the service is really bad compare to an Italian restaurant or whatever european. Asian people averagely don't know how to serve a plate on the table, mostly use to slam dishes on it making you... More

We ordered so many different things and everything was amazing! The salmon sashimi was my favorite! The tempura and chicken Teriyaki portions were HUGE! Everyone went on about how amazing the tempora was! (I didn't risk it due to my shellfish allergy) And the maki was really good too! The food was SO amazing, the waiters and chefs- not so... More

I read the view online, I thought it worth to go . After I sit down I realise that Japanese restaurant looks like owned by Korean people, and food shows that as well . I even find a long hair in my food ... So I kind of lost my appetite..and that is first time I had that much cucumber... More

Staying in Commercial Drive

Neighbourhood Profile
Commercial Drive
Commercial Drive, also called "The Drive," comprises of twelve sauntering blocks of modest and unfussy counter-culture. Straddling the line between sophisticated and unadorned, it is favoured by students, artists, writers, designers, and start-ups, and suffused throughout with a healthy off-beat counter-culture. The kind of neighbourhood which well-springs thought-revolutions and has the odd bit of self-aware graffiti, Commercial Drive has resisted gentrification in favor of continuing to build a thriving den of affordable multiculturalism. Once known as Vancouver's "Little Italy," it has also been the immigration point for Guatemalans, Hondurans, and Portuguese to the city. The resulting hodgepodge makes for poetry readings in espresso cafes, social debates in early-open bakeries, and eco-activism posters pinned up in the many multi-ethnic markets in the area. Commercial Drive is where you go to feel like a local, and if you have them, bring the kids – The Drive has a number of bookshops, toy stores, and attractions to get them involved too.
