What can I say about the New Town Bakery & Restaurant... IT IS REALLY AUTHENTIC!!!This place is popular for the locals to hangout from breakfast till dinner. Big menu with daily specials for set lunch and dinner as well. Varieties of bake good and famous steam buns fresh everyday. Some bake goods are half price after 6pm. Servers are nice... More

when i asked about 4 people where i should go when Im in vancouver, everyone mentioned this place. so i made sure i check this one off my to-do list. I wanted to try and dine inside this place. however, my timing was off and came at the busiest time of the day. so i had to be contented with... More

After our visit to the Vancouver Police Museum, we went to Chinatown for an afternoon coffee / tea break. The bakery/restaurant always has a brisk takeout business and when we were there, there was a steady line up of people waiting to order throughout our stay. The four of us sat down for some coffee and pastries and ordered the... More

Service isn't the best, but the noodle soup and buns are worth the visit! Make sure to bring cash! Also, I love that it's in the heart of historic China Town...sometimes not that pretty, but it's a great cultural experience.

Located in Chinatown. Lots of food choices as you might expect in a Chinese restaurant. For lunch I ordered the hot and sour soup. It was not gourmet but decent and budget priced. Service is indifferent. I made the mistake of using the *totally gross* staff toilet in the back instead of the restroom provided for customers. Wide selection of... More

I grew up eating at BC Royal and New Town. Every time I come home to Vancouver, I always come to New Town Bakery for their Chicken Deluxe bun and the Bar-B-Q pork bun. The deluxe has savoury juicy chicken with a salted duck egg yolk filling. The BBQ pork bun reminds me of the BC Royal BBQ pork buns... More

Had some Congee and Dim Sum. It was just ok. Small selection of dim sum but lots of great baked goods to pick from.

Second time here, and for a reason. The food is so full of flavor and done right. It was a little wait for the order to be taken, 10 min, but the staff was so busy with hot steamed buns that came out. Once we ordered it was 3-4 minutes wait for the food. Brisket Noodle Soup and Duck Noodle... More

Visited with party of four. Plan was to get dim sums / dumplings, but ended up having main courses and some dim sums on the side. They were just average, had pork and shrimp steamed dumplings, sticky rise with chicken and pineapple bun. Mains were duck soup, chicken curry and (shared) shrimp hot pot. Duck was OK, chicken tasted plain,... More

Good food at a reasonable price! Right in the middle of Chinatown. Friendly staff and prompt service... It is a good place to drop in to pick up some treats or sit down for a quick meal!

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
With the recent exodus of massive new building projects hitting the neighbourhood, Chinatown; which has always been one of the city's most vibrant areas; is even more buzzing and buoyant than ever before. Playing host to some of the city's best pan-Asian cuisine, from fusion food to traditional home-cooking, Chinatown has remained faithful to its roots as a space which clambers with shop signs and welcomes diners to the table. More that that, it has a hip experimental vibe to it, with trendy pop-ups and catchall market shops. The biggest of Canada's Chinatowns, it is also home to an expansive Chinese garden whose manicured grounds inspire and delight, its ponds and pagodas drawing walkers in for an stroll. Take in the red streetlights, the playful awnings, and the upbeat air that suffuse this area.
