Great pub and restaurant. Good ales and sampled the bar food at lunch which was excellent and the pies one evening. Manager and staff very friendly. Oakham ales Citra was liquid gold. I also tried Local pint of Zoo. Dog friendly pub.

Went on a Sunday expecting a roast dinner to be available but it was curry night. We like curry so not a problem. The food was ok but not brilliant. The naan portion was very small. Wouldn't eat there again but beer is good, made on site.

Where do I start? I write this sitting at the bar eating the perfect fish and chips served by the most happy and friendly staff drinking superb real ale brewed on site listening to live blues music and chatting to friendly locals. Heaven has a name and it's called The Poets in Ashover! Get here if you can.

We went to The Old Poets last night for a works leaving do. A lot of wonderful beer and a lovely buffet was consumed. Lovely busy staff who coped admirably and a lovely award winning pub. Totally recommended.

We stayed in a rented cottage close by and wanted somewhere to eat that was also dog friendly. The cottage owner recommended this place and he wasn't wrong..... Excellent food, friendly staff and not too busy. They also do a pub quiz on a Wednesday night. Prices were also reasonable. Great place and highly recommended.

Group booking - made nearly two years ago - what a disappointment. This was a special occasion for two 50th birthdays and to be honest it was so bad that we didn't hang around after the meal. Good initial impression upon arrival and drinks in the bar. We were then taken to an upstairs function room. There were only two... More

Diabolical - we had a meal for approx 30 people on New Years Day booked for around a year. The special celebration was a friends 50th Birthday, we were staying in an amazing house near by over the New Year & had heard great reviews and booked here on the back of it... The original booking manager was helpful &... More

12 of us with a bunch of kids came for dinner and enjoyed the experience, service was good food was of a good standard, basic but done well i really enjoyed the sausages mash and peas and the fish and chips went down well with the kids. Beer was excellent and probably why the pub was busy and popular.

We went to eat last night having used this pub numerous times and on this occasion it was average at best. The menu was reduced and limited to five choices and the service was poor. Bar staff were scarce and slow and the food was generally disappointing. My steak pie was a small portion that looked like the last corner... More

This pub has the best atmosphere of any pub I have been in. Open log fires with candles on the tables, flagstones on the floor and its own brewery in the back yard! The beer and cider range is amazing with their own beers and guest ales, 10 hand pumps and Ashover cider on tap. The food is good with... More
