Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Great local pub with lots of seating and good Guinness. The best chowder we’ve had in 2 weeks of chowder eating in Ireland. The flavour was fantastic. I chose the chefs Srilankan lamb curry which was was great, hot and flavoursome. The sides were a little dry as if perhaps not enough people had ordered it so they were hastily reheated, but a great effort nonetheless! Fish pie with salad and garlic bread was simple but very delicious. overall one of our favourite meals in Ireland, simple but effective.

A group of us were staying in Allihies last weekend and we booked into O'Neills on the Saturday night for dinner. There was 31 of us. The food and service were exceptional. The staff were so friendly and efficient. It has been all we have talked about since was how good the food was and how friendly everyone was. Would highly recommend this restaurant and can't wait to go back.

Stopped for lunch on a grey, foggy day and were served a lovely home-made seafood chowder with big chunks of fish and shrimp. On top of that: nice service and spotlessly clean facilities. A 5-star experience!

I stayed in Allihies with a hiking group for the weekend. On Friday and Saturday nights we ate in O'Neill's and had a few drinks in the bar. Everyone was amazed at the quality of the food. The menu is vast! There were various seafood and fish options, meat options and I had the Vegetarian Tagine which was very delicately spiced. On the second night I had the fish cakes as a main course. They were delicious, and there were 4 of them with accompanying sides. (O'Neill's - whatever you do, keep that chef!!) The staff are very friendly and it didn't knock a feather out of them to have to cater for over 20 of us. The drink prices are reasonable and always served with a friendly smile.

We had lunch at O'Neill's on Sunday 04.08.2024. The place was very crowded but they immediately found us a table for two. Tasty and hearty lunch: two seafood chowders as appetizers, Irish stew and Irish beef as main courses. Drinks, two pints of local beer. The atmosphere of this pub is wonderful, especially on a rainy Sunday!

Food was amazing! Atmosphere was also amazing. We visited on a Sunday evening for dinner. A lot of locals (you know the food must be good) and tourists filled the bar and restaurant. Live music started at approximately 6:30pm and was excellent and made our visit there a true Irish pub experience. Staff were outstanding even with how busy they were.

Visited here for food while touring around. Ordered the scampi and fish. Don't believe it was fresh like we were told and the chips were just frozen chips. I had received my veg on the side and when my wife received her dinner she asked for her veg and was told that what I got was veg for 2. This made us laugh. We finished what we could and left. Was expensive for what we go.

Great service from all staff and especially front of house staff Eimear and Natalie who were extremely pleasant and accommodating every night we ate there. The food is amazing with a great selection. We tried different meals each night and couldn’t find a complaint about any. I would highly recommend and I will definitely being visiting again.

We arrived into Allihies after a long cycle and O’Neills appeared to be the only place in town to eat. It was awful. No can I preface this by saying that neither I nor my husband are at all fussy but we came into the bar and we were starving. The customer service was non existent. I tried chatting but got nowhere and it wasn’t busy. Food arrived. My husband got mushroom soup for a starter and it was just gloopy. He didn’t eat it. It was taken away without comment from the waitress. We had fish and as it’s a seaside town we expected fresh fish but it was frozen. It was just horrible. I didn’t eat most of mine and my husband likewise. We went up to the bar to pay for it. Took our money. No chat. It was the first day of my holiday and it was the low life of an otherwise great holiday

The service was great and the food was amazing. We had the specials and it was fantastic. When we entered the pub area there were many people not adhering to social distancing or wearing masks. Not once the staff asked them to wear masks or adhere to social distancing. However, once you are in the restaurant area there is enough social distancing to enjoy dinner. If you dont feel comfortable with lack of social distancing etc. i would not recommend this place.

We stayed in Allihies for 2 weeks in mid July and ate in O'Neill's several times. Our experience there was exceptional. Despite having to navigate all of the limitations of COVID rules the team at O'Neill's are managing to deliver real hospitality.
We had excellent food with speedy service and smiles every time. I observed the cleaning regimen between guests and was hugely impressed with how thorough the staff were. We were served a number of times by Eimear, who really blew us away. She's a total pro and was totally on the ball, sanitizing quickly and thoroughly between guests while also having time for the chat. Seriously impressed.

I visited this outstanding bar and restaurant with hillwalkers for a few days last week. Hand on my heart it has revived my spirit of freedom towards eating out during Covid. There is so much space, it is spanking clean, the service is bang on and the food is to die for.
As Castletownbere is the number One fishing town in Ireland , I had to eat the fresh fish that easy on menu every day. There is a wide range of dishes to choose from and to my utmost delight, the gluten free menu is filled with choice. When you dine here, you must order starters, mains and desserts. Without one, you won't get the overall experience. The food is exceptional, so fresh and the service is outstanding.
Hats off to each and every member of staff. They are so well mannered, efficient and have utmost courtesy for food allergens. I am coeliac and was delighted with the food experience.
Eimear is a fantastic waitress and Miriam the owner is wonderful to meet and greet. A great Bean an Tí.
I will return to O Neills Restaurant in Allihies for the fish, the service, the ambiance and the sheer West Cork craic in time to come. A hidden gem.

I hadca lovely lunch in this friendly restaurant in Allihies. I had a very tasty burger, really enjoyed it. Decent varied menu, very good kids menu too. There's a playground directly across the road as well so easy supervision for hungry or thirsty parents!
Service was so prompt, attentive and friendly - really made me feel welcome.
They have a cool outside area, they've sort of appropriated most of the road, both lanes! Quite an achievement! But it works! Lovely place.

We stayed in Allihies for one night, our host suggested to go to the bar. They had live music from 6, which was wonderful and the bar was buzzing with locals and visitors.
The food was great, as was the Murphy's. Check out the specials, I had the fish cakes which were wonderful. Definitely will be coming back in the future.

We were driving through Allihies and saw the blue gazebos on the pavement and having been looking around for somewhere to eat that evening decided to come back from Eyeries for a meal. The weather was pretty awful and having to eat outside required some kind of shelter and the gazebos were just the thing. The food and service were great as well! Thank you
