This is another of Veracruz's great cafe, a fantastic place for breakfast. We took two lecheros (33 pesos for the large one) and two plates of huevos divorciados (70 pesos) - everything was delicious, and the service was better than at both Gran Cafe la Parroquia and Gran Cafe del Portal.

Everyone wants to go to La Parroquia for breakfast, which is very good but here you taste tradition in all senses. The staff has been here forever and knows the moves. They are like dancing through the place. The coffee called here "Lechero" is wonderful. Fruit, juices, eggs, picadas, bombas and the famous Zaraza, taste incredible. All of the tradition... More

Enjoyed a great meal in the outside seating area here one evening. I ordered several small traditional items, empanada, soft taco, salad, and quesadilla. It was way too much food, was all really good, and by US standards quite inexpensive. We dropped in here while walking aimlessly around Veracruz, so completely by accident. But, the next day we asked the... More

Great breakfast spot right next to the historical center. Also serves lunch and dinner, typical Mexican cuisine. Popular with locals, open 7am - 10pm.

La Merced is right next to Parque Zamora. This is the style of Veracruz cafe's and sort of diners like La Parroquia but with a very local taste. Here you will see family gatherings, old friends reading the paper and commenting current news. Food is great for the price. I suggest fresh fruits, sweet and tasty, and also "picadas" in... More

Good spot for your breakfast "lechero." (coffee and warmed milk - very popular in Vera Cruz). Breakfast was good and the service was attentive. La Merced is in the style of "La Parroquia" but seems less expensive and has a little less tourists and the vendors that follow them around. It's very popular with the locals which is always a... If you are looking for cafe lechero, in the style of Gran Cafe de La Paroquia, but with no lines, better breakfast, and lower cost. This is the spot. The locals love it too.

Café la Merced gives an authentic taste of Old Veracruz, which is sort of like Havanna. It is, in my opinion, close to the real thing, and not at all like Disneyland or other corporate this-or-that's. It's wonderful.
