We had the most delicious meal in quite a while. I had been to tierra y cielo a few years back and had a perfect fillet of fish with a crust of amaranth, chia and sesame seeds with a mango sauce on a bed of...a perfectly exquisite plantain purée (originally it’s with a carrot purée but I utterly hate carrots and the chef kindly changed it for me). I ordered it again and it was exactly as I remembered it. We all ordered different dishes in order to share and to try many things. It was a great idea for everything was absolutely perfect. Service was impeccable and the waiter had so much knowledge of each and every dish that he told us how it all was prepared. Being a chef myself I was very interested in knowing how the different dishes were prepared and was pleasantly surprised to hear from our waiter all the information that was interesting to me. They also sell mole paste and a delish salsa with nuts and chiles that is out of this world. I bought some and will be cooking some yummy things when I get back home. If you ever go to San Cristobal de las Casas please, please oh please don’t miss an unforgettable meal at Tierra y Cielo.More

VERY disappointed. All 4 dishes were terrible. My pork shank tasted like spam in tomato soup. And it wasn’t a shank at all. It as pressed ground pork. All dishes looked amazing and tasted horrible...

Paying for reputation and ambience but if that is your thing, this is your place. Food was excellent, service fine and the decor sophisticated.

3 couples who have been everywhere loved this perfect representation of the best of Chiapas cuisine. This award winning resto may have to move to get more wall space for its awards. We had different choices for the 6 of us. Everybody loved their meals....The sevice was impeccable and pleasant and warm. Dessert was brilliant. This is a must do no matter your budget. In February 2020 a meal for 6 with drinks and 2 desserts that we shared came to US$150, about $25 each. Unbelievable value for the quality. .More

We tried this restaurant at the recommendation of a friend who has been coming to San Cristobal for the last 20 years! And I’m so glad we did not miss it. Beautiful decor, exquisite presentation, excellent service and the food is absolutely amazing! We tried...the mole con pollo. Incredible interpretation of a Mexican classic. I loved the banana purée “truffles”! The pork shanks were superb. The shrimp aguachile was fabulous! The pox presentation was awesome! And delicious! Very Memorable experience!More

I have eaten all over Mexico and was excited they had a woman chef. First my water was served in a chip glass and they changed it but lo and behold it returned in the form of a lavender margarita except they forgot the lavender.... Next up a tamale. Beautiful presentation but flavorless. Next up the chipini soup. Again totally flavorless. The same soup at La Lupe was ten times better. Then we shared beef ribs string flavor.ess. The only good thing was the encrusted fish. Their were 3 of us and we had cocktails and a bottle of wine was $57.00 usd each. The food at La Lupe was way way better. The restaurant was empty by the way. They need to step up their game! Very disappointed.More

We had the tasting menu with the paired Mexican wines and beer. I’d give the food a 4/5 - it was generally very nice, though we’d had better elsewhere in San Cristobal at a much lower price, but to their credit they did have some...interesting new takes on old favourites. There were real problems however with the drinks and the restaurant layout. Firstly, the drinks: out of 4 paired wines and a beer, the beer was the nicest drink and that was poured straight from a bottle! Not to mention it was a pretty commonly available and cheap beer, but it worked fine with the dish. I’m almost certain that 1 of the wines we were served was out of date, but it was an usual Mexican rosé so I couldn’t say with complete confidence. I did spot a date label on the bottle that was 2 months before our visit, but maybe that was referring to something else; either way it was bad. Two of the other wines we had were also from the same label as each other, which was somewhat disappointing when we’d paid for a tasting pairing to experience a variety of Mexican wines. Overall the wine pairing was disappointing and in some cases actively unpleasant, though the beer and the final red wine we had were better. Lastly and worst of all: my god your restaurant was freezing! We were seated near the entrance door, and spent the majority of the meal being uncomfortably blasted by cold winds. The restaurant door was often left open due to staff coming in and out, and the door to the main building adjoining the restaurant was also open, so we were being constantly blown by winds coming straight in from outdoors. I had to repeatedly get up during the meal to shut the door myself, as well as asking the servers to close the door, which they did a few times before giving up or forgetting. Maybe this is because this sort of cold breeze is less common in Mexico (?) so staff aren’t used to it, but for an expensive restaurant it should be basic knowledge that your customers shouldn’t be spending their evening in uncomfortable cold conditions and having to interrupt their meals to repeatedly close the doors to your own establishment. Even before you eat anything, comfortable seating should be the bare minimum at an expensive restaurant. Overall would go again for the food, but only when they’ve sorted out the freezing conditions, and I’d recommend you stick to the a la carte menu for wineMore
