El Caldero is one of our go to restaurants for fast, delicious, and reasonably price food. The menu is simple and mostly soups, but they are well made with fresh ingredients and lots of meat and vegetables. Plenty of locals eating here which is a good sign.

My sisters and I went to El Caldero twice while in San Cristobal de las Casas. We had their black bean soup - yum yum. The list of soups on menu is endless.

Regional soup cuisine! Very tasty! They have occasional regional live music who expect to be tipped for their performance.

Eating in Mexico can sometimes be 'too much', as in the meals are heavy. So if you want something lighter and different, how about soup? Still, the bowls could be huge for small eaters. As we were a group, we ordered a few different ones to be shared. I don't recall the orders but I do remember the ones with... More

Great soup, huge servings, good tortillas, great prices. The vegetarian soup is delicious, particularly once you add some of the sauces. The bean appetizer is addictive. I wish I had a branch of this restaurant in my home town, a perfect late night dinner.

The menu is limited, especially for breakfast, but it's alright. As it's name indicates, the specialty are the different soups and broths, which were very good. Also available are quesadillas, tacos, chilaquiles and other Mexican dishes. Prices are fair. Too many local people and street vendors come in to sell and ask for money. :(
