We enjoyed sunset cocktails on the terrace followed by an excellent meal on the first floor of the restaurant. The flavors were spot on. Highly recommended.

I randomly found this place but I was very happy that I did. The breakfast was great and looking at their menu, the rest of the day looked delicious too! The atmosphere is relaxed. I saw that the restaurant has a separate program (I’m not...More

We weren't allowed to have dinner in the rooftop as they claimed it was too cold. The room inside is not very charming, totally made for tourists - if you are looking for a Mexican feel, this might not be the best choice. Our waiter...More

Nothing to rave about and nothing to complain about. Very clean and affordable. The portions were right, not too much and not too little. Overall a safe bet for everyone to visit.

Delicious, rich flavors. The ceviche was the best in town! Quirky style. English speaking waiters on my visit.

The last visit we perched on Olla's aerie and looked west over Santo Domingo church. This visit we nestled inside, in a full room of diners, Mexican and out-of-country visitors, during a remarkably tranquil evening. Consuelo ordered the nopal salad and I had the tortilla...More

Be sure to include this restaurant in your travels in Oaxaca City especially if you want something on the lighter side. We had both mole but also stopped by when we wanted a larger green salad or soup.

I love how Chef Pilar Cabrera continues to offer new menu items. Today for breakfast I had her new breakfast item, Huevos estrellados saludables, which translates into Healthy eggs over easy, or in this case, eggs over medium. The picture below does not do the...More

Excellent restaurant. It is a bit of a hole in the wall and lies literally in the shade of other larger, more famous restaurants. Nevertheless, this little place offers great traditional food at reasonable prices. Starting with the good service of the people working here,...More

We ate breakfast here one morning--I highly recommend the squash blossom egg dish. We returned a couple days later for dinner and we had a delicious mole verde fish dish. The upstairs dining room is cheery and the wait staff were really friendly and attentive.

We were not able to sit on the rooftop when I was there in January because we did not reserve in advance. it's clearly a top spot! We ate in a beautiful dining room. BUT if you want the rooftop experience, call... More

This small, charming restaurant has a lot going for it. Located only two blocks from historic Santo Domingo Church, and within easy walking distance of the Zocalo, La Olla is very popular with both foreign residents and visitors as well as with locals. La Olla is one of the more trendy eateries in the city, and our spotless kitchen produces a wide array of traditional Oaxacan, continental, and vegetarian foods. We pride ourselves in serving the best quality of products available, and most of our produce is grown locally and delivered to us by farmers during the week. Our coffee is locally roasted and the foods we serve are extremely fresh. We bake delicious apple strudel, chocolate cake, oatmeal cookies, vanilla flan, and more on our premises daily! All of our creations are cooked to order, prepared fresh starting when we receive your order. We use more fresh fruits and vegetables to create healthful and visually attractive dishes than any other restaurant in Oaxaca. Delicious sandwiches are served on home-baked whole wheat bread, and we even make the mayonnaise in our kitchen. There is a wide variety of healthy drinks available, using unusual combinations of fresh fruits and vegetables. The main meal of the day in Oaxaca is eaten in the afternoon. A real bargain at "La Olla" is the "Menu del día" or "Comida corrida", a full meal which changes daily, for only $90 pesos served from 1-4 pm. It includes a freshly-made salad, followed by a soup, a choice of two entrees, with tortillas or bread, and finishing with a dessert or espresso coffee. Many typical Oaxacan dishes are featured, and for a low price you can experience traditional cuisine at its very best. There is also a full a la carte menu featuring a wide selection of dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The prices are moderate and the quality very high. La Olla is proud to display and promote artwork created by local, regional and international artists. Our gallery is open daily during restaurant hours. The art on display is available for sale, and the gallery selection is changed periodically.
