Here they use native or 'heirloom' corn, fine-ground on a metate (stone mortar), shaped by hand and cooked on the comal, clay griddle, in the middle of this open air restaurant. The menu is extensive, like ordering tapas, and the prices very reasonable. Their tamales are very large and moist and it seems all other plates are generous portions as... More

This is a very unique dining experience. You select which and how many of the many tasty items that you want by using a pencil and printed checklist. There are SO many different fillings options, some of them not the "standard fare" you might be used to seeing on Mexican menus. There some familiar items, like tacos, tostadas, quesadillas, and... It is not a luxury, facy or chick place... The importance of this restaurant is that all the menu is corn based, with original/ traditional recipes from the nearby indigenous communities...the food is prepared openly next to the costumers.. From time to time street singers and musicians perform in exchange of some small money... The breakfast and brunch is very... More

We love watching the action on the comal, the fresh taste of the tortillas and the strong ethic of supporting local agriculture. Simply the best of Oaxaca!

It was our first time here and we really enjoyed it. Others have talked about large portions--we didn't find that to be so for what we ordered, but everything was delicious and FRESH. We've had a tough time finding truly vegetarian options in Oaxaca, but Itanoni has lots of these and the waiter was happy to help us out with... More

Love the local, organic maize dishes here. Delicious and inexpensive. In a quiet, safe neighborhood, though it's a bit of a hike from the center.

How can you fully explain how you feel about home made soups, tortillas and juices? Our experience here was perfect. We walked from downtown about twenty minutes to get here and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the neighborhoods we passed through. We ordered the green soup, tortillas with mushrooms and cream, fresh orange mango juice and then more tortillas....we could almost not... More

I'm hoping our experience was unique. Popped in on a quiet Thursday afternoon. Ordered (or tried to order) jugo de naranja. They told me they were out. 5 minutes later, a woman at the next table next ordered the same and was served it. Then later, someone ordered orange and carrot juice and they were also served it. Then I... More

This is a great place to try the variety of corn dishes made in Oaxaca. Be warned that the portions are large. A taco here is much bigger than a traditional Baja taco! The food is simple. Spice it up with your favorite salsas.
