About
I ate at many of the restaurants listed in trip advisor over an 8 day period in Oaxaca. Decided to try this place because it was always crowded with the mixture of Mexican and non Mexican tourists. The food was from the isthmus of Mexico. Authenic but different than the usual Oaxacan cuisine which became repetitious after a while. The food was different, with a lot of " I wonder how they make this sauce, dip, drink?" It was not fusion gitzy food that a lot of the higher rated restaurants on your trip advisor restaurant list present to the tourists.

Came here for dinner after a afternoon walking tour. The ambient is trendy. They sat me in an outside setting and were very attentive. Food was amazing! I had mole negro con pescado and an order of guacamole. Their drink menu is attracting and all...drinks are made with mezcal. Highly recommended!More

The food at Zandunga was good, but not really great. We had the appetizer combo for two and a tamale with mole negro. We had wanted to just get the appetizer combo for one person, but were told that since there were two of us,...we had to order it for two, so we got more food than we wanted. The setting - in the location where La Biznaga used to be -- in a large open air patio -- is wonderful.More

Minimal, refined decor. Spacious patio with romantic, candle-lit ambience. I had the Botano Istmeño and felt the flavors could have been stronger and more complex.

We wanted to be in the former Biznaga setting and so gave the expended Zandunga a try. The service was very attentive and the space has been beautifully renovated. The music was played at a reasonable level and mostly Oaxaqueña, for a chanfe. The lovely...pieces of art featured images of Oaxaca people and scenes. It was a pleasure to sit once again in the open courtyard and remember years of enjoying Biznaga's margaritas. Zandunga is an upscale restaurant rather than the neighborhood hangout Biznaga was so, for us, dining here will be reserved for special occasions. The menu specializes in dishes from the Zapotec Isthmus. We skipped appetizers and ordered two main courses. The waiter served a complimentary amuse bouche of traditional ground fish, and tostadas with 2 tiny bowls of different salsas. The entre of grilled dorado fish was very good but was served on a pool of tasty but unfortunately ashy gray colored huitlacoche sauce. The special istmeño pork, served with sauce and a surprising mustard potato salad, in a bowl, was a bit tough but flavorful. We enjoyed sharing the french toast-like bread dessert with a beautiful deep carmine jamaica sauce. Zandunga would be perfect for a special occasion.More

I really liked the restaurant, the service and the food. I had the black mole with fish and the plantains and they were delicious. Sine they were so good, I de used to order a take out of the plantains and sadly enough, those were...not good. I would still go and eat there thoughMore

This place offers you a nice and cozy environment with friendly staff and exceptional food. The essence of Oaxaca food is present in the menu. Servers will spend time describing to you the best options. The tlayudas, tamales and mole are delicious. The mezcal selection...is also impressive and unique.More

My boyfriend and I went because we’d read the food was very good, and it didn’t disappoint. We loved both dishes, service was excellent, and our mezcal margaritas were interesting and delicious! The cochito horneado was our favorite, but you can’t go wrong with the...Botana zandunga (variety of food—tamale, platanos, etc.) either!More

Our first day of a multi day stay in town, we consulted a list of local restaurants kept at the front desk and decided to try out Zandunga, recommended by a couple of the sources we regularly use. It is a lovely space, not to...wide but deep with high ceilings that give it a spacious feel. Seated we started with two Zandunga Margarita’s (with mezcal) and at the waiter’s suggestion, a local appetizer (Ixtepec) of a mild chopped fish that one spooned up on tortilla strips and garnished with two different kinds of salsa. Wanting to try as much as possible we followed this with another appetizer, four pieces of Garnacha, comprised of small Fried corn tortillas, with beef, onion and tomato sauce. Filling up after these two hearty starters, we began to regret having ordered the rest of the meal, that being a Shrimp Soup (Molito de Camarin) and a Tamal de Mole Negro for my Wife. Being in Oaxaca, known for its Mole’s, I went for the Mole Negro, a nicely cooked chicken breast in the dark mole sauce with a corn tortilla and side of rice. Each item we tasted was delicious, although I would come to prefer the lighter moles, the intensity of the negro version off-putting after a few bites. We’d have more opportunities to try different types as the trip proceeded, as everyone here has their favorite recipe. We did the best we could trying to finish our entrees having eaten way too much at the start of the meal, a real shame as they were so good. We finished up and settled the tab, which came to 918 Pesos ($47), less than $50 for a full meal with two cocktailsMore

Oh, i don't know. But worth calling or emailing them to ask. If not, maybe call their hotel to see if they can arrange something special.
