It was my first dining stop the day I came to Mexico City and it's my favorite spot so far. Located in a historic busy but cozy street corner of Coyoacan district this place amazed me by exceptionally fresh seafood dishes spiced and served to perfection! Tostadas with tuna or shrimp, platter of clams all paired with Clamato beer drink... More

starting with the positive: the location is great! On a very beautiful square in a very beautiful neighborhood. we watched a lot of mexicans have their usual Sunday morning. Despite the fact that this place is not cheap (compared to mexican prices), we were the only tourists there which was also nice the bad part started after the order: with... More

In the middle of the locality, overlooking the square. It's a good place to watch people walking around and a nice view. We had the Gnocchi Bolognesa and Salmon Aurora and both appreciated. Two cocktails each and as we were there at the right time (4:30) we had the two for one cocktail price, which was much appreciated.

In the heart of coyacan, this is a lovely place to take in the great ambience. Food was good, the excellent service will make us come back for more.

We have had coffee, hot chocolate and baskets of the some of the best buns we have eaten. Really delicious conche ones. They do bring it out without asking so make sure you want the buns (they charged us about 120 pesos for two baskets). Hot chocolate and cappuccinos are great and it's a lovely people watching place. Couldn't comment... More

I personally think you should ask for a table on the porch if you go at night on a weekend (We did). The food's good. I ordered an avacado sauce fussilli and wasn't let down. Why I made enfasis on being sitted on the porch? Because the inside looks more like a seafood sports bar and you'd miss the plaza's... More

The one thing this restaurant has is the great location right in the middle of the main square in this beautiful neighborhood. The food is just about average. My pizza tasted like it came out of a frozen box and my partners sushi wasn't all that great. The lesson we learned is to get sushi at a Japanese restaurant! The... More

Sit outside. Great place to grab an ice cold beer and people watch. Food is excellent as well!! Everyone at my table enjoyed their meal. I enjoyed the shrimp tacos and the salad with fruit and nuts. I'll return and bring more friends.

We visited El Catamaran on a night when the weather was perfect for outdoor dining. We had a sidewalk facing table along the Jardin Centenario. Musicians strolled by, as did hundreds of pedestrians. We had a a great meal, I had the Pescado Phyllo, a tasty white fish, baked in phyllo dough and served with rice surrounded in a tasty... More

Staying in Coyoacan

Neighbourhood Profile
Once you step into Coyoacán (“Land of the Coyotes”) you'll find picturesque parks and cantinas that will transport you back to the colonial era thanks to the brick and stone details of the area. Iconic writers such as Trotsky and great painters like Frida Kahlo seeked refuge and inspiration in this area, and you can see the unique spirit of this neighborhood reflected in its colorful market where nieves, sopes and all kinds of traditional 'antojitos' are a must try. Restaurants and cafés throughout its peaceful paved streets contain traditional but unique murals and decorations, where one can enjoy a mezcal at noon or the best churros with a cup of coffee.
