We were lucky to have a beautiful evening and being able to eat outside, enjoying a stunning sunset with just the perfect temperature (much cooler than in cities like Modena). The food was incredible. Everything. From start to finish. And it felt relatively cheap (~40€...per person with wine and 4 courses meal. We would come back in a heartbeat!More

This place gets my highest rating. Every dish was wonderful. All 4 of us were expressing our joys for each dish. Food orgasms! We were here 5yrs ago.and this lived up.to our memories. This was featured on an old Anthony Bourdain episode ( RIP) Aand...this place has stayed humble and true. (Prices elevated somewhat but worth it) I love this place. Our waitress was as amazing as the food. I dont want to give away too much about the menu as it is nice to be surprised by the set menu. Just know u get many dishes. Be sure to.ask for a cheese course...and buy extra dessert plater after the rich ice cream. U get you taste all of their balsamico vinegars which are DIVINE!! Be sure to.take some home or ship.a huge box with their vinegars, liqueurs wines and other panty items. This place is SO worth the drive!! A must do if you are within 2hrs. Go early and stay long. Reservations recommended.More

We were a busload of people but we booked the dinner around lunch time. We knew they were quite full but could take us. The food was excellent as always, two primi, one risotto and one pasta, excellent both of them. We had no time...to eat the two different main cources, so we just skipped the other and got into the dessert. Everyone was happy except the chef would have hoped us to eat more though we were very full. A different place in a little village out from the main roads, quite difficult to get into with a large bus.More

My words will not give Pedroni the honor it deserves but I'll try. We arrived earlier than our booked tour, by 1.5 hours... let me explain. We were more than happy to sit in the garden even on a 90+ degree day just to be...at Pedroni! The respected patriarch of the family, "The Boss," Signor Giuseppe, I pray I got that right, was not happy and he looks unhappy with everything, don't take offense, it's his way. The family moved jobs around a bit to give us an impromptu tour which we tried to say that we could wait for the scheduled one. The family does all of the jobs at the store, farm & restaurant, please be respectful. At 1st, we were treated as rude tourists, which we deserved, we arrived very early. As our interest was clearly noted, our tour instantly became intensive & very special. This family and their friends are passionate and proud about their product. The beginning family barrels are 100+ years old!!! Absolutely beautiful! We had the opportunity to taste ALL of the Balsamico produced down to the 100 year old Extra Vecchio "Cesare." Unforgettable! We were at the end of lunch service but there was enough for us to lunch un-reserved! 1st of all, no cell phones, no photos! Lock your phones & cameras up! Enjoy the meal, the moment, the experience! For those before who didn't & took photos, shame on you!!! The pasta is handmade fresh in the morning with special techniques unique to the area, just beautiful. The meal that you are presented with is the family's typical Sunday lunch, a very special occasion. Our 4 course meal started with a soft as silk tortelloni-type pasta filled with ricotta topped with a generous drizzle of balsamico. Creamy ricotta balanced the acidity. 2nd, a dish of pretty freshly made pastas that were rolled onto a comb-type tool to give the fine texture of grooves. Topped with a slow cooked ragu /meat sauce. This ragu was nothing like I've ever tasted before! I've eaten & cooked many a ragu! Mostly meat, both pork and beef but without the high pitch of seasoning or tomato. True flavors. We were told that no ingredients or technique has been shared other than what I just wrote. Incredible. 3rd, small roasted meats with a side of potatoes cooked with bacon. These weren't just roasted meats... They were perfectly roasted, unseasoned, yet tender bits of spare rib & chicken. I've never had roasted meats so flavorful, non fatty & tender! No words. Cooking techniques & recipes are not shared, even with their friends! The potatoes. Not "just" potatoes. Flavor bites that screamed "Delicious"!!! Just wow! The ice cream is made nearby with a special recipe just for this meal! Extra egg yolks are added so the color is darker and the flavor is a little stronger to pair well with the balsamico. You cannot, not finish this! Unbelievable! Along with dinner, you have a bottle of Lambrusco frizzante made by the farm. Excellent, even on a ridiculously hot & humid day in July. To finish dinner, the apertifs are brought out. We wet our lips with each to taste. I have to say though, the herbed liquor settled my oh so full tummy! & then wake up with a crazy smooth espresso made from a beautiful copper espresso machine form the 60's!!! Arrive hungry, leave beyond satiated! We were last to leave as the place had cleared out. We were finally told "finito" by the Boss. I thanked the cooks for their unbelievably delicious meal through tears, yes, I cried... All of that was made with love!!! This is where the true magic started to happen. We came for an experience and received it but we also came for a piece of history. The wine made on the farm is phenomenal in all varieties available. We were given a taste of the entire batterie in-store along with his prized gold seal awarded aged walnut liquor. So smooth with a vibrant, rich flavor. To be fair we were already committed to purchasing the beautiful cherry-colored box containing "The holy grail," ABTM Extra Vecchio "Cesare" 100 year old balsamico! As their brochure says, "It is the ideal choice for those who consider experience a virtue." We explained that our two teens chose to stay in the ac cooled Airbnb with wi-fi while we were out for the day. Ridiculous! In the end, "The Boss" asked us if We wanted a photo with him! His sour, serious face turned into the biggest smile I will never forget! A photo which I'm not sharing, we earned that one! We left that day with our hearts & tummies beyond full. Our trunk had an extra section just for the incredible products made by the dedicated Pedroni family. An experience of a lifetime along with a piece of history that we can pass down to our generations!!! We say, Thank you! Grazie Mille!!!More

We started our visit with a tour of the acetaia (balsamic vinegar ageing area) and got an excellent explanation of how traditional balsamic vinegar of Modena is made. It was a really unique experience to see how they age the vinegar and how long it...takes to get a good balsamic. Next, we had lunch in the osteria, which is at the back of the house, in an open terraced area that was really lovely. The owner makes everyone put their phones into a little locker before eating as he wants the focus to be purely on the food, which was fun. We were then served various courses (no choices, they just bring you out food), all using the balsamic vinegar that they produce there. The food was delicious and we loved the experience!More

We had read about Rubbiara and our expectations were high; it was not a disappointment. Next time I am in the area I will definitely go again. Lunch was simple but excellent with plenty of balsamic vinegar to enjoy. I was a little sceptical about...balsamic vinegar and ice cream but it went down really well. After lunch we spent some time in the shop which offers the vinegars and liquers we enjoyed over lunch as well as a number of other excellent products.More

About 30 minutes’ drive from Modena city centre, Italo Pedroni and his family make traditional and commercial balsamic vinegar (PDO & IGT) and nocino, local green walnut liqueur - but what we loved most was lunch in their garden. Ricotta tortellini with butter and balsamic...in this casual osteria, with a glass of pale pink Lambrusco, was one of my most memorable meals ever - so good in fact that we drove back for more the next day!More

Old style osteria next to a family business that predominantly makes high quality balsamico. Really worth a visit if you're in northern parts of Italy. The balsamic vinegar based menu is awesome!

Acetaia Pedroni is both a restaurant and an acetaia which, if convenient, will give you a very informative tour and balsamic tasting. There is no menu displayed outside or offered inside, only a set meal comprising classic Emilia-Romagna dishes, most featuring drizzles of balsamic. We...alerted the restaurant in advance to the fact that one of us is a vegetarian and they made minor adjustments to accommodate this requirement. Whilst the food is good, the reason you go to Pedroni is the somewhat surreal experience, overseen by a world-class curmudgeon of a patriach whose dead-pan interractions are, in equal measure, hilarious and intimidating; a bit like an Italian Basil Fawlty. His requirement that mobile phones are locked away in a bank of little cupboards is refreshingly welcome in a world where tourists are more concerned about what they can photograph and brag about on social media than the food they are eating. But, once you have submitted to this ritual, you have tacitly agreed to do dine the Pedroni way. So,don't even think about asking to revise the seasoning of your food with a little black pepper or extra salt. Sgr Pedroni doesn't approve of people sharing dishes so if, like us, you felt stuffed before the gelato arrived and ask for just one portion to share, the serving staff will diplomatically deliver 2 half portions! Because the portions are generous and Sgr Pedroni's disapproval of waste is likely to be made apparent to you with the stern exhortation "Finere!" my advice would be to arrive with a VERY empty stomach. Go with the flow and you'll have a great time!More

Italo Pedroni and now his son Giuseppe guarantee a heavenly experience. I have been going to enjoy lunch at the Osteria di Rubbiara now for 16 years and not once has it not been other than expected, just fabulous. Indeed there are many good restaurants...in the Zürich area where I live but nothing beats going to the Pedroni’s for lunch and restocking on some Aceto Balsamico and some of their nocino. 1’000 km in a day to restock on goodies and lunch? Is it worth it? Has been for me for 16 years so far and I don’t intend to change it any time soon! Actually I was just there today 😀More
