I and my husband were treated to a meal with a family of friends (a total of nine of us) tonight in the garden of the Colitraive Hotel. Being a local, from the Isle of Bute, I have been there a few times under different...owners and it has always been good. However, tonight exceeded every other occasion. From the start we were greeted by lovely waiting staff headed up by the excellent David Cummings, a long time member of staff with previous owners. New tableware was delightful and a perfect lead into a superb menu excellently prepared and served. Although the food and wines, not to mention the myriad gins etc were sublime, they couldn’t hold a candle to the smoked fish beignets served with an anchovy and caper mayonnaise. One note of caution for those of more than minuscule appetite. The perfectly prepared courgette main course was tiny. Ah well, good job I had the baked cod then. I would happily eat here every week if my means and time would permit. I highly recommend this lovely lovely place and hope to return soon. Long May they continue.More

We have been to the Colontraive hotel many time over the last 6 years. The experience has always been exceptionally good, we have our second home in Kames and a visit to the pub is always a highlight. Our visit tonight was good, however the...wow factor has melted away, we offered some feedback when asked ‘how was your meal?’ But it clearly wasn’t appreciated. Nobody asked for detail or said sorry. We want to see you wow factor again and wanted to be honest as regular customers. £158 bill for 4 would normally have been good value but tonight I feel a bit cheated, ok at half the price but not what he expected. I have never fed back before so feel a bit deflated. Gut feeling is never again but I really want to see this place do wellMore

Hi - We are so sad and sorry that you didn't enjoy your meal. I've picked it up with the team who were also concerned you hadn't been happy but weren't told what we did wrong when asked and couldn't understand what had gone wrong....More

Just a perfect place to stop and have lunch. We visited twice and were delighted by the food, staff, location and views. The weather helped but what a great place to be on a sunny day.

We had two nights at The Colintraive and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It’s got a great relaxed vibe, attentive and friendly service and a lovely menu with great food. It’s a team that obviously enjoy what they do - a lovely experience for visitors and we...left for the rest of our Scottish island hopping bike adventure feeling very chilled out indeed.More

We were a party of five, visiting the area for the first time. Strun looked after us beautifully, the whole team were fantastic and the food was awesome. I had Scallops, Langoustines then panna cotta for dessert. The food honestly couldn't be better and the...service was perfect, attentive but not too much. Thanks for a lovely evening. Highly recommended.More

3rd visit and every bit as good as previously. The service is excellent and more personal than in most larger hotels, the staff are delightful, the food is delicious, and the location is lovely. We can definitely recommend it!

Couldn’t recommend the Colintrave enough. Such friendly staff and amazing food (and a beautiful cat!!). We came via boat and they were so welcome - even offering to charge our devices and fill up our water can. A must visit!

My husband and I , accompanied by our 5month old puppy received a very warm welcome here for lunch yesterday ( 22 June ) . As it was so sunny, we sat outside in the very pretty garden which was also secured by a gate.... The menu was mouthwatering and the dishes delicious. The staff could not have made us any more comfortable, providing water and treats for pup. Great family friendly practices were evident in the ladies loo, which had a plentiful and fresh supply of nappies, wipes and sanitary items. Everything was spotless. Such a lovely experience in stunning surroundings, will most definitely return in the summer .More

I came to the Colintraive for a coffee whilst I waited in this lovely spot for the ferry. Quality coffee from local roasters, Argyll Roasters served in the most beautiful hand crafted cups I have ever seen. If it had been later in the day...I would have ordered some of the wonderful food on offer, looked good!! Hopefully one day I can return and treat myself to a stay at the hotel too. Welcoming and friendly staff, very clean, excellent spot to spend a while to relax, and enjoy the beauty of the areaMore
