Take the time and drive out to Great Brak River. The beautiful landscape of the Garden Route is part of the experience. The restaurant is in an old "station shed" dating back to the days of trains transporting goods. The menu offers lovely tradition meals- lamb neck( to die for..),skilpadjies( ..?.. go and find out! ) ... prepared with style. For... More

The service is special. Every bit of attention to detail. Speciality starter must be the Skilpaadtjies. This is the stuff we'll be served in heaven. Fillet was done to perfection. My fish was excellent. Wine pairing is was very good. This is most definitely a eating place that will see us again soon !!

Quaint restaurant with wonderful array of wines to choose from on a self-help basis ........the curried coconut fish cakes for starters were splendidly presented and tasted even better. The lamb neck was absolutely amazing as were the veggies and mash. My better half had the pork belly with the most outrageously marvelous crackling. Dessert and coffee also didn't disappoint. All... We were recommended this restaurant by Joy and Louis from the Whale Phin B&B, As a main, we chose the lamb neck – Transkaroo’s signature dish – and we could highly recommended it. The lamb is cooked for 4 hours and falls off the bone. We chose a Steenberg Merlot 2014 to accompany and it worked well with the lamb.... More

Transkaroo is definitely a must! It is fine dining at its best. We traveled far and the first stop was definitely at Transkaroo and it will be on our list of stops till the end of days. The food was spectacular and the friendly staff where the cherry on top, our waitress was very helpful and she was great with... More

Amazing venue, very cosy and romantic. Menu offers a taste of the karoo. The lambs neck was my favourite. My only gripe was the bland vegetables, having it roasted with some garlic and herbs would have been better but thats my personal preference. Service was top notch and very welcoming. Prices on par with restaurants of the same calibre. Will... More

We were accommodated on the romantic station which conjured up thoughts of old romantic movies, love lost and found and old steam trains. It was refreshing to be outside and we were allowed to be accompanied by our two furry friends. Our waiter, Franko, was charming, polite, considerate, very knowledgeable about the menu with a great sense of humour. He... More

Stopped in for lunch because it was the only restaurant open that we could find, without knowing it t'was the most famous place in these parts. Food was great..I had slow roasted pork belly. Big portion and well cooked! Only thing....I asked for hot chilies and was told there would be an extra charge for them.....because they were " out... More

Dear Tricia42. Thank you for your review. We are delighted that you deemed our food to be great. Lets ponder your pondering for a while. We have to purchase (with money) all the ingredients that we serve to our customers in or out of season. Furthermore, we purchase only the best quality ingredients that we can find and definitely not... More

Great meal. A bit pricey, but worth every cent! Enjoyed the pork neck. Wine a bit pricey too - worth paying corckage of R40.

We are new residents in the area and this restaurant almost looked like a typical small-town station building from the outside. And then we were almost "blown away" upon entering. What an absolutely lovely experience - from the warm welcome, the beautiful ambience, the wine, the best food so tastefully prepared and presented, the service ... definitely going to be... More

Situated in the old railway station of Great Brak River you'll find this hidden gem, the Transkaroo Restaurant. With it's open rafters and ostrich shell chandeliers, overlooking the estuary and Indian Ocean you are quickly transformed to a bygone era of steam locomotives and Gatsby lookalikes! This restaurant has received accolades for the having the best food, menu and delightful service in Great Brak. A relaxed attitude and atmosphere makes this a truly enjoyable experience and we follow our motto with perfection..."local, fresh, and always tasty".
