My family and I booked The Gate for a Mother's Day meal and get together. There were 10 of us in total ageing from 1 to 84. We were given the menu and asked what drinks we would like shortly after sitting. The menu was lovely with a good selection of starters, mains and desserts. There was also a vegetarian... More

This was a special family outing for Sunday Lunch but it was very disappointing. Although the restaraunt was not busy the service was extremely slow. Lengthy waits between courses. Very salty gravy which overpowered the meat. Vegetables dominated by cauliflower and not very hot. While we were still eating the staff started hoovering at nearby tables! Unclear how they calculate... More

The gate is a lovely place to sit and have a drink that's what keeps the good name. The last time we ate here was for xmas we had the xmas menu but not as good as other years. The beef was ok some parts tough also tough a year ago. Also the starter was so small it was hardly... More

Arriving at ten to twelve we were there before the start time for lunch, so we had a drink in the bar. Very soon we were invited to table. The food was excellent with a good choice and plenty of it. The décor was clean and quite interesting. The service was excellent throughout the meal. We had the place initially... More

This was an Italian wine and food evening. We'd been to previous ones and had enjoyed them. We were not disappointed! The food was excellent and the wine on offer was a really good selection. These evenings are really great value and most enjoyable.

The Gate has always been a nice pub, and on occasion it's gone through a few different restaurant incarnations, most of them pretty good. At the moment it's back to just decent, home cooked British food. We ate in the bar rather than the main bit, which was very busy on a Friday lunch time. There was a roaring fire,... More

Absolutely the best meal we have had in a long time. Excellent choice on the menu. Excellent service and a vast variety of drinks to choose from. Outstanding value for money. If you haven't visited the Gate, I strongly recommend it.

Description
There has been an Inn/Pub/Hostelry on this site since the 16th Century. It was closed for two years before the current proprietors took it over and refurbished it ready for opening in mid-October 2012. It is privately owned and operated and is not part of a chain. It has a 150 seat restaurant divided into a number of areas and rooms, from a small cosy private dining room ("The Gate Room") to a room which can comfortably sit a function for 50 diners. The Bar area has ground floor access with no steps and there is a wheel-chair ramp outside for access to the restaurant. There is a disabled toilet in the bar area. There is a car park with up to 48 bays. The restaurant style is 'bright and roomy' and not cluttered. Dogs are welcomed in the BAR area - but not in the restaurant. There is out-door seating for up to 40 people.
