Thought I'd try this place again but never again.the food is just bland and tasteless if I was you I'd go to the smoke house or vine leaf in St. Andrews or even the fish bar in crail as this place will ruin your trip no doubt the manager will say it's amazing blah blah as always your place is... My wife and I went down to the East Neuk on her birthday and were fortunate to go here for lunch. The waitresses were very pleasant and helpful and we had a good table at the window looking out to the sea. The food was of a very good standard nd so was my wife's glass of wine. The water... More

Somehow in the change of ownership The Ship Inn has lost its way. I'm sure the ensuite bedrooms are lovely but The Ship Inn was a place for good pub food and local beers in the past but somehow that has been lost as it transforms itself into some sort of modern-esque boutique hotel. The charming service and simply prepared... More

Called in for lunch on a busy Saturday but still managed a table upstairs. Was a small table close by other big groups of diners and all through lunch no one sat at the three tables by the windows overlooking the sea. The food was good, fish soup and sea bass but value for money I,m not sure.

Hello yunshou57, I'm glad we were able to accommodate you during a busy Saturday lunch service, and that you enjoyed the fish dishes. Our Cullen Skink is extremely popular, using fantastic locally-sourced produce. We haven't recently offered Sea Bass on our menu - perhaps it was our Cod aux paupiette you dined on? Our second visit in 9 months or so and whilst OK on the first visit our party of six were shown to a small cramped table and area when there was more open space elsewhere. We asked to move and this kind of set the tone for the rest of the visit. I had the Veggie Burger which was served... More

Dear Alan S, Our table allocations are managed carefully to accommodate all our bookings, though if you have visited before and have a preference for a table we do try our best to bear this in mind: other bookings of a similar size may have requested particular tables when you visited. I would very much dispute that our Veggie burger... More

Just wandering by towards the end of a 10 mile stretch of the Fife coastal walk. The Ship is a very pleasant modern looking bar which all looks nice and fresh and clean. We just dropped by for drinks and liked the real ale on offer which was well kept. Outside has a pleasant looking outdoor seating area although as... More

Dear Slug01, Thank you for your charming review of The Ship Inn! We are indeed an excellent pit-stop during or after a coastal walk and are very lucky to be housed in such a beautiful part of the world. Though it wasn't myself personally who managed the situation with the guest to whom you refer, I have been made aware... More

Place was full on a week night just after Easter. Used the complimentary taxi service so could enjoy a glass of wine with our meal. The langoustine starter was tasty but difficult to eat. The mussels main course was fine but the sauce was a bit thin and needed a bit more seasoning. Had a lovely table in the window... More

Dear Vicki G, Thank you for taking the time to review the Ship Inn. Our Langoustine tails, which come straight off the boat at St Monans, are indeed delicious. Any seafood served shell-on, as the menu specifies, will always require a wee bit of attention, which in my humble opinion is all part of the experience. Seasoning is of course... More

Dear Kay D, Unfortunately the weather is beyond our management capabilities at The Ship Inn, though I am very much in agreement that our beachside beer garden is a fabulous spot on a sunny day! Smiling, welcoming staff in the bar and dining room. Good choice on lunch menu and pleasant attentive staff. Just the right amount of friendliness and efficiency. Same at dinner service a few weeks ago. Very clean, tasteful, well kept surroundings. Would definitely recommend.

Had a beautiful walk last weekend from Earlsferry to Elie beach and stopped in to the Ship Inn for a quick drink and rest. The Ship Inn at Elie in Fife has long been one of Scotland's most iconic pubs, famous for its great views, stunning location, and even as the only pub in the world to have a cricket team with a pitch on the beach. The owners, Graham and Rachel Bucknall, who also run the Bridge Inn at Ratho (named as AA Pub of the Year in September 2014) purchased the Ship Inn, a pub they both knew very well, in late 2014. After a major 6-month renovation programme, they re-opened a transformed Ship Inn in the summer of 2015. 6 beautiful bedrooms were opened in March 2016. The inn is part of a row of old cottages by the harbour. At its heart is the bar where the comfy chairs and sofas beside the open fires and wood-burning stoves make a welcome sight, especially when it's windy and rainy outside. You are more than welcome just to call in for a coffee, but it's worth stopping longer for a pint, a whisky or a meal in the upstairs restaurant with its views of the bay. The same menu is offered throughout the inn - and if you have your dog with you, he or she is very welcome to join you downstairs - water, treats and even dog beds are provided. The food is of the hearty pub variety, but seafood, locally caught, is high on the menu. Graham and Rachel have also created delightful double and twin bedrooms, all with views of Elie Bay and the Firth of Forth. The Ship Inn is unique in the fact that it has the only cricket team in the UK that plays matches on the beach. From May to September, depending on the tide and after the sand has been rolled flat, the Ship's team hosts matches for other Scottish teams and touring teams from all over the world.
