Haven’t been there for many years and was definitely impressed about the change of cuisine. The restaurant still oozes the same atmosphere as before with friendly and correct service. However the food has risen to a whole new level. Impressed by the refined balance and...harmony of the dishes. Nothing negative comes to mind and the wine paring was excellent. Above all I think that the relation price/quality is excellent. When does the second star arrive?More

As an Italian leaving in Paris I often have had issues with the way the Michelin guide assesses southern Italian restaurants. Last night at fornello da Ricci proved to confirm the rule. This one Michelin star restaurant is the less interesting / tasty dinner of...our week in Puglia. Appetisers are fine, nothing creative but tasty. Orecchiette are very good, the lasagne quite poor (too much liquid, insipid meat). The main course is an utter disaster ... think veal and rabbit the way you would serve them in Paris (sauces etc) without the skills of a Parisian chef. We left most of it, disappointed. Dessert: again forget the terroir and try to imitate French patisserie, failing miserably. The dining room lacks charm and warmth (thanks to white LED lights), service is to be improved (wine cant be served from the left!). There are much finer choices in the area, this one needs a full makeover. Michelin please abstain!More

Well, it was a 40 minute drive from Martina Franca to Ceglie Messapica to discover this old-established (1966) rural property hidden by olive trees growing in red soil, immaculately managed. This is a JRE member so an effort is made to locate them while travelling....Took a set menu 60 euros. Polpettine, small meatballs, intense, aged veal. Then the grandest set of antipasti, hot and cold which kept arriving; as a surprise, no warning or idea of how to pace the palate. The salumi, three types, great coppa, so moist and aromatic; seems to be a specialty around here. Hot was a plate with a small quiche, baccala on a crust, chickpea puree, ricotta stuffed zucchini flower, baby eggplant baked, fava bean puree, whole baked peppers, purple onion in a twirl, and snake beans in tomato sauce, and thin cucumber twirls topped with local hard cheese. Great vegetables. The next plate was difficult: obviously an old time local and stuffy, wholesome meal. A girandola; seven cereal skin over a filling of veal mince, local smoked cheese, burrata sauce, flowers of zucchini and mint. Very filling, very rich, confusing flavours and cheesy. Plate three was veal; tiny 5mm noisettes, char grilled, juicy, not rested (blood oozing); several coulis sauces, on avocado paste, and peppered. Fair veal; failed to understand the supporting flavours. Last was a biscotti; nutty, biscuit, choc, zabaglione style. Wine: Amativo from Cantene in Salento province, 2014; 14%, 60/40 primitivo and negroamaro; big, pruney, rich and chewy. The restaurant sommelier Rossella did not offer assistance. Lunch Score 14 The writer is a wine professional; and wine and food tour guide.More

Impossible to fault in terms of service and atmosphere. Starters interesting but main course could have been from any local restaurant. All Italians who tend to arrive around 21.00 for dinner. I wouldn't come here again.

A very disappointing meal experience for all 6 of us. Our Italian friends were of the same opinion. The starter meat balls were tasteless and the dish of assorted meats was no better than a 2 star restaurant. In general the food was average and...service no netter. No value for money here.More

This is a very nice family-run restaurant. I don't think the service level is anywhere near Michelin star territory. Our table of 8 was served almost in a family style. But the food was outstanding, flavorful and very much representative of the region. All of...the veal dishes and vegetarian dishes were outstanding. We ate out in the open air on a lovely night.More

We recently ate here with a group of 8. Food was normal--not great although the rabbit was a bit gamey. Good choices of various plates. However the service was nonexistent. It was disorderly and confused. Twice our table mates had to wait while the others...ate--no excuse at all. The worse service we have ever seen in a restaurant of this caliber. No one seemed to be in charge--we had several different table servers--none worth anything. thumbs down until they get themselves together.More

I was suggested this restaurant a while back by my cousin on holidays at my home Thailand. Now i'm on holidays in Italy and my cousin takes me for dinner at this marvellous place. The food is extraordinary!! Have yourself guided by the extremely polite...lady host, she will suggest you all the best there is in the kitchen on the night. I own a restaurant myself and this is by far exceeded my expectations. The knowledge on how traditional southern food is presented and matched with the new tradition is spectacular. The warmth of the owners coming out to say hello is the best you can have in a busy kitchen...i know what that means very well. If i have to find a little dark spot it would only be the slightly inferior level of service to compare other Michelin starred restaurants, but that is easy to fix (sommelier needs to know the wine vintage of every bottle and when dishes arrive to the table...waiter need to know who to give it to instead of asking who is having what) Dear Antonella and Vinod, i thank you for such a great dinner at your place and i can't wait to come back again.More

After reading the reviews on trip advisor and wanting a special meal for friends we booked this restaurant hoping it was going to be a meal to remember, unfortunately it was no more than average and no better than many of the other many excellent restaurants...you can eat in in ceglie for a fraction of the cost and as good a quality. One of our party was vegetarian and had a plate of uninspired tempura vegetables and salad for her meal. They forgot one of our parties first course and so they had to wait. When I asked for both cheese and butter I had to get up twice and ask the waiting staff. Not once did the staff ask if everything was ok.I felt the meal was uninspired having eaten at Michelin star restaurants previously, with inattentive service.More
