Amazing service, lovely food and catered really well for the two kids ! Will defo be back the service was so personal !

We had dinner at this restaurant to celebrate a special birthday. The menu is not extensive but the dishes are authentically French, cooked by the French chef/owner. They were delicious! One of our party was vegan and the chef went to a lot of trouble...to make separate vegan dishes for her. The restaurant is short-staffed because the owner is trying to get back on his feet after having to be closed for so long during the past couple of years. This meant that here was a little delay with some of our dishes but they were well worth the wait! I definitely recommend paying a visit if you are in the area.More

Enjoy great dishes inspired by French cuisine using local products. The fillet steak with gratin dauphinois is higly recommendable. Real Irish beef grilled to perfection. The wine recommendation is outstanding, what a pleasure. Very friendly and personal service.

We popped in hoping to get a booking for our anniversary, we had both been busy with moving and forgot to book anywhere. The staff were more than obliging. The food was absolutley amazing. We were even given extras and it really opened our eyes...to food we would never have thought of ordering. The chef is really passionate about food and it shows. The restaurant is currently short staffed as are many due to the pandemic but they managed it really well and we would happily return for such fine food and generosity.More

My husband and I went to this French restaurant on the last night of our trip to Ireland. The dinner was excellent, the music was very pleasant and the owner of the restaurant was very kind, he was patient with two Italian tourists who speak...little English and he was also an excellent chef who was able to advise us. If it happens, we will gladly return and recommend this place for a great lunch or dinner.More

Reading reviews this had to have been an off day. It was terrible. We arrived at opening time 12.30 he had a birthday party for a child and we were told could only cook for 4 at a time ! we were only ones there...with the party. Anyway I selected the soup and home made bread and my husband selected the club sandwich. We had a bottle of sparkling water which came halfway during meal. Well my soup came in a large bowl with slice of brown slice pan ! My soup tasted watery , no depth of flavour or seasoning to it. My husband was presented with a brown plate of food, club sandwich consisted of 2 slices of toasted pan with chicken and bacon and mozzarella and a slimey piece of lettuce (from being in oven )and on top of bread some tomato mix spread on bread, chips were like floppy wedges and dark brown all looked like it was placed in oven altogether , I sent back the soup and it was reserved with extra cream added which did nothing so I sent back again. My husband ate half his chicken and bacon and left rest of food.Very very disappointing, we got small reduction for the soup. Best part was chef aske me for suggestions to give better flavour to soup ! MAYBE HE WAS BEING SARCASTIC DONT THINK SO. I am a judge for the Guild of Fine Food and know good food when I get it. This is the first time in years I have had to send food back. I do not think we will be returning despite the other reviews I have read today.More

Excellent French cuisine in an unexpected location. The chef even came to each table to describe some of the recipes such as duck roasted in Irish artisan cider.

We received a very warm welcome on a cold August Saturday afternoon. The World Gate has re-opened despite the ravages of Covid - like other restaurants it has lost some key personnel while closed. However, the chef-proprietor is still putting on a very good show...and hopefully very soon they will be fully back to normal. We were a family of four and we all left very satisified and looking forward to a return visit. We almost had the place to ourselves which was a pity because this restaurant deserves support. As a vegetarian I had the 'Healthy Soup' which was fine but lacked body. My main course, however, more than made up for it . I went for the 'Veggy' burger which was by far the best of its kind I have had. It was a vegetable buger topped with aubergine, grilled pepper, beetroot, courgette, goat's cheese and mozarella with a drizzle of honey - a stunningly good dish which was served with fried potatoes. My companions shared a pot of mussels with garlic in a white wine sauce - it was a generous portion and got thumbs up all round. They then had the 'Duo of fish", which like the mussels came from nearby Clogherhead - the fish was cod and salmon, and it was served in a white wine sauce on a bed of tagliatelle. Judging by the response I would say it was excellent. To finish we had authentic French pastries which were made by a French pastry-chef in Ardee - they were incredibly good. Oh, and I nearly forgot, the wine by the glass was a generous measure and complemented our meal very well. All in all we were very satisfied with our meals and with our very pleasant exchange with the chef-proprietor who is obviously very committed to both the cuisine and the service.More

This was the best meal I had in 7 months (which was a 2 star Michelin restaurant). Well cooked fresh fish. Well cooked chips. Mussels in a white wine sauce was define. Desserts were rich and a perfect end. The owner also matched wines perfectly...for us. We will be back.More

Visited the World Gate restaurant recently and the food was fantastic. I had steak and it was cooked perfectly. Really enjoyed the set up and friendly welcome we received. I would definitely recommend a visit.

We are so lucky to have this little gem on our doorstep. I cannot wait until it re-opens: however: I will next go, without my children so i can fully indulge in the adult experience here!
