Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The food - chicken in breadcrumbs and pork loin with chips and salt to share - was ok, but the service was pretty average. Not helped by the local football team derby match being on tv, but that's no reason to ignore the diners. Maybe...not the night to be eating out in Alajar, but there were more people in the bar not drinking that there were eating in the 'restaurant'.More

A good choice for dinner (and lunch). Be warned the portions are huge and very tasty. The retaurants in the village have varied opening hours, many only open at weekends but El Corcho is open every day except Thursdays.

In town Monday Tuesday in January and this is the only restaurant open. However does not disappoint with good quality wines and local food. Decor is unique in a good way. Would visit again.

We went for a meal in early January and were initially surprised at how small it was inside- with only about half a dozen tables (as it looked larger from the outside though most of the space is taken up by a large bar). The...food was simple but well prepared, tasty and good value. Good choices of well priced local wines (and from other Spanish regions as well) and overall a very nice evening which was enjoyable and good value.More

During a recent visit to Alajar we ate here 4 times. There is a good range of food and the service is efficient and friendly. I really enjoyed the Chicken Empanada and the salads are great. My husband enjoyed several Iberian pork dishes . The...wine selection is good and we particularly enjoyed "dirty boots" red wineMore

We had lunch with friends and ordered their Iberian hams, which the town is known for, what a treat!. The place was decorated with cork from the tables to the chairs, bar, etc. very unique looking restaurant. Everything in the restaurant had a traditional flair...to it. The waiters were very helpful in suggestion the meals and it was delicious. Highly recommend this stop for lunch if your in the Alajar area.More

Very generous servings of tasty meals including melt in your mouth Iberian pork and a lamb dish that was so tender and very filling. Also a generous serving of bread with a selection of sausages was brought out to start. Service was friendly and helpful...and complementary brandy liqueurs were a very welcome addition to our coffees which were also on the house. The restaurant itself is decorated with character and includes some of the local ceramics. The cork ceiling in the bar area is amazing.More

Had an evening meal here. The proprietors were friendly, the menu basic and prices reasonable. The food was quite satisfactory, but definitely not gourmet! OK if you just want something to eat reasonably quickly.

This restaurant was recommended to my wife and myself by a old lady from the village who had showed us the local church. As you walk in to Meson El Corcho, you are met by an iron chain blocking your way in. The waiter lifted...this and led us into a huge hall, similar to an Oxbridge college dining room. There were plenty of other diners, attesting to the popularity of this inn. The theme is cork, cork, cork. Look up to the ceiling for the huge flower carved out of cork. Once at our table, the waiter prepared from the roaring log fire a bowl of molten ashes ("brasero") to put under our table to keep our feet warm, which it did throughout our meal. Our lunch was hearty and sustaining on a cold and dreary Saturday afternoon. To start we ordered a plate of cheese and a local meat stew, followed by a rack of lamb and chicken breast. The lamb was absolutely wonderful, nicely presented and cooked in a large dish. At the end of eating all this lot, we unfortunately had no room for a pudding! The service was prompt, friendly and efficient. We speak Spanish fluently and had no problems. We'd love to visit Alajar again, and would have no hesitation in going back to El Corcho.More

You will find Meson El Corcho right in the centre of Alajar. Although the staff is friendly, the portions generous and the bar area nice, the restaurant is too much of a tourist trap. Overflowing with decorations on the wall, a large open fire, and...food that is not very exciting. And pricey I'm afraid to say. Not recommended.More
