This is a great place to come for breakfast, lunch or just for coffee and cake. We come often for food that is always delicious and very reasonably priced, service is always with a smile and food served in a timely manner. It's nice and cosy in the winter with the fire going and in the summer the outside seating... More

We stopped here for a break going between Christchurch and Nelson/Motueka. The cafe sits at the intersection of both roads which lead to Motueka or Nelson and the road from Lewis Pass. It's not as crowded as Murchison and is about an 50 minutes to Nelson/Motueka. No trucks stop here. Plus we found the cafes in Murchison average. Coffee was... More

My partner and I wanted somewhere to stay, before and after climbing Mt Owen so gave the Flat Rock Cafe a call. Graham and Maureen were very accommodating and flexible enough to cater to all our needs, providing b&b with a lovely clean and recently refurbished room with ensuite. We are vegetarian & they served us up two lovely meals.... More

To be fair what we ate was good however I'm peeved over being asked to pay 60 cents for tomato sauce. We wanted a full English breakfast but the only choice was to buy bacon and eggs and add on extras. $3 for a sausage (you can choose between beef or pork, we chose beef but got pork), $6 for... Absolutely amazing. Had the salmon and kumara filo. I couldn't rave any more about it. To die for. Great service. Clean and tidy. Thanks heaps!

We travel out to Kohatu regularly just to go to the Flat Rock Cafe. The tea or coffee is always good. The food is great, and well presented with a good variety. Very well priced, and what a great location too. You can travel to Kohatu from Nelson then go home through the Motueka valley, turn off through Dovedale, through... More

Have often passed this place on way to Riwaka. It has fairly recently been transformed from an abandoned run down pub into a very tidy and attractive cafe. Ideal stop on way to Nelson or Motueka. Lovely food and coffee. Intriguing art work on display. Lots of off road parking. This is likely to become our regular stopping place when... More

We had lunch that we had booked ahead of time and on this particular day we are glad we did book as it was very busy being a Saturday. The menu is simple but adequate for a quick bit and the service is fantastic and friendly. We will definitely be stopping in again.

Great full on breakfast at reasonable price, just perfect stop on motorbike ride from Nelson to Murchison, staff were all pleasant and helpful and service was good despite being busy.
