One one of our days visiting the Tuscany towns, my friend mentioned to our driver that it was my birthday, so he recommended a "special" place for lunch. He could not have been more right about it. Warmth, charm, extremely helpful proprietor, and amazing Tuscany food and wine. We also took a tour of the kitchen. It is a truly... More

Some 12 years ago, I discovered this wonderful gem on a late summer tour of Tuscany - a 'first date'. My return last week in the late autumn light, with panoramas of Montepulciano and Pienza, has cast a spell - nothing less than 'infatuation'. A wonderful reunion with the urbane Sr. Umberto Lucherini as well as the kind and generous... More

We recently enjoyed a wonderful dinner at La Chiusa, an authentic Tuscan restaurant a short drive from Montepulciano with great food, a very nice atmosphere, and a warm, colorful and memorable host, Umberto Lucherini, who welcomed us, gave us a tour of the kitchen, and made menu suggestions. Our meal was delicious, and we would strongly recommend this restaurant to... More

My wife and I had an incredible dinner here while staying at Hotel Lupia. I ordered the meal and courses as offered on the menu for that specific night. The chef is truly an artist with both food, natural flavours, and kindly shares his passion for thereof when he visits your table. One of the best meals I have ever... More

One of the best restaurants in Tuscany in all aspects: food, service and locale. Upon arrival we were introduced to Chef as he gave us a tour of the kitchen and showed us his entrées such as duck and beef Florentine. The owner and his table staff were extremely attentive offering excellent advice on the menu and wine accompaniment. It... More

We were in Montefollonico for a week and stumbled on this place our last night... wish we had found it sooner. The owners were so welcoming and the food was amazing... from the hand rolled pasta, to the soups & pastas... the filet was so large we had to take it home and put it in the fritata for breakfast... We have made a point of stopping at LaChiusa on three separate visits to Italy and it remains a highlight of each trip. The location is a little remote but breathtaking views make the trip worthwhile. The food is spectacular and JP was again the gracious waiter. This is a don't miss restaurant if you are in the area!

Opened by arrangement on a closed evening, taken into kitchen to inspect the porcini before enjoying an excellent dinner with local wines complimenting each course, the Innocenti being especially impressive. We were given access to the full menu despite being the only customers and chose a wide selection, all good, chef Dana came out after to receive our thanks.

One of the most charming evenings imaginable. The night began with a delicate promenade through the kitchen, with its array of impossibly fresh local ingredients, including aromatic and freshly foraged porcini mushrooms. Having been introduced to both owners, front of house and back room staff and several young (and ever so slightly loud) Asian families, we were led through to... More

Description
The pleasure of Tuscany
Fifteen elegant rooms and a gourmet restaurant made out an ancient oil-mill: that is La Chiusa, a characteristic and intimate place to stay in Montefollonico, a countryside guest house immersed into the Sienna province hills.
We are in Tuscany , between Pienza and Montepulciano, on the ridge which divides Val D'Orcia and Crete Senesi. In the early 70's we pioneered to dedicate our lives to host in this part of the Tuscan countryside. We attended, several years later, the opening of the very firsts local guests houses and the rising of the Tuscan holidays as a must.
Unconsciousness, determination or just by chance? We do not know exactly what led us up here. Without any doubt a common and unconditioned passion for scents and aromas, for the tasteful extra virgin olive oil, for Sangiovese wines, salami and cheese of our Siennese land together with the devotion for the ancient culinary learning handed down from mother to daughter as the old land cultivation techniques passed on from father to son. But what mainly spurred us on stepping forward was the confidence that people would soon or later certainly get back to appreciate simplicity and what our definition of hospitality is. Almost forty years later we are proud to say that we were right.
Hospitality at La Chiusa not only means to open our house's doors to the guests, but to share with them our passion through the knowledge of our country.
