A little Gem of a restaurant. Food is top class. Daniel has passion for food and hand picks his wines from South Africa. Can’t wait to go back.

A group of six of us chose Daniel’s - a well-known local spot - for an evening out. It’s a slightly odd upstairs place but Daniel himself is personable, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was delicious and the provenance of the seafood is all local....We had a great evening and will join the host of locals who speak highly of this place.More

Visited on Saturday with five friends and we had such a good time. Daniel was attentive and informative throughout. The food is utterly fresh and created with knowledge and thought. It’s a really special place. Emphasis is on the food rather than high end flashy...lights and decor. I thought I’d never get that feeling I had as a kid when entering a fancy restaurant with fancy delicious food. But I’ve found it. I would happily dine here alone or with others and work my way through Daniels menu. Great wine and wonderful service. The waitress was so kind and didn’t mind 6 daft women slowly getting louder. Can’t wait to go back soon. 🥰More

Had a meal here on 7th July 2020. Mushroom with crab and a pate for starters. 2 steaks with side dishes and pepper sauce followed by calypso coffees and some drinks. Steaks were cooked to perfection and sauce was to die for. Daniel was perfect...host will definitely be back. Well worth a visit. 10/10More

My husband and I have been wanting to go to Daniel's for dinner for ages and it did not disappoint. In we went and the food was just incredible (easily the best food I’ve had in Ireland) the patron/chef was so knowledgeable about his dishes,...it was very obvious that he knew what he was talking about. We ordered the crispy duck and the lamb shank which was absolutely divine and the desserts were so good. I highly recommend the fried ice cream and his bread and butter which is packed with raisins and made with hand made custard and cream. If you pick one place in Ireland to it - let this place be it. The food is incredible and Daniel's is a one of a kind spot that deserves to be at the top of your list.More

Fantastic meal, much care taken with details. Lobster thermidor exceptional, beautiful presentation. Plaices fried strips perfectly done. Let the chef choose your side/potato. Desserts simply fabulous, our fave was bread pudding, South African style. Over the top wine selection and excellent value. Go!!!

We were recommended this restaurant and we were not disappointed, on the contrary. The lobster bisque was delicious, so was the chicken liver, the crab sallad and the smoked salmon. All courses were beautifully presented. The wine list contained an amount of South African wines....”Le chef” was brilliant and very entertaining. We do recommend this restaurant.😘More

We visited Daniel's for the second time in Sept 2019. The food here is really top class. Daniel is a real old style master chef who uses all the experiences he has gained over the years to produce great food, the way it should be...cooked. My wife had the crayfish salad for a starter which I got a taste of, and it was was wonderful. She had hake for mains and it was also delicious. It was a cold night so I had the soup which was very good. For my main I had a dish called beef Zurichoise and it was so delicious. Daniel has a great array of fish too which is always wonderfully fresh - I've had lemon sole here on a previous visit and it was mouth watering. For dessert we all had bread and butter pudding. It was amazing -chock full of sultanas, home made custard and made to his own recipe. We have a saying in Ireland if something is really yummy - "You'd get up in the middle of the night to eat it". well this was one of those desserts. He also has some wonderful south african wines. We had a bottle of Thelema Sauvignon Blanc which was exceptional. All of these dishes came from his value menu which was €25. Unbelievable value for such high quality food. Don't be put off by the decor in this restaurant. It's a little dated, but this restaurant is all about the food and it is scrumptious. Btw Daniel the chef will also regale you with stories about his trips to South Africa and it's great entertainment. We were blown away by the quality and the value and we're definitely going back. I'd give it a 6 if I could.More

I had dinner at Daniel's last night after reading the reviews and seeing the menu posted outside the restaurant in Sandy Cove. It was a very quiet night so I received excellent service. I hesitated between the lobster, beef or Hake and shrimp. I decided...on the two course menu and ordered the crayfish salad for starters, so fresh and with a tasty dressing, almost did not need a dressing as the cray fish were so fresh! I followed this up with the Hake and shrimp served over a bed of buttered spinach and accompanied by potato croquettes. The flavour of the, fish with a buttery white wine sauce were to die for and the Hake was cooked to perfection. I had never had potato croquettes before and they were really great! Everything was accompanied by a very crisp South African Sauvignon Blanc. A delight to discover this wine as I do not normally drink South African wines. I was too full to try the fried ice cream specialty but went with rhubarb and vanilla ice cream, mmmm. Daniel's company was delightful and he told me of his visits to South Africa and his charity work, his B & B and restaurant experiences. What a lovely man! Ok, yes the decor is a little vintage but I did enjoy listening to the piano music playing tunes from The Sound of Music as i looked out at the sea at dusk. I may just need to return to try the lobster bisque, lobster or beef before i head back to Montreal! See the pictures of my meal in the picture review!More

We visited Daniel’s restaurant yesterday evening. The food was really good. Daniel the Chef is clearly passionate about his food and knowledgeable about wines (especially South African). The mushroom starter was delicious as were the sole goujons and there is a special treat for desert...- deep fried ice cream! Highly recommended!More
