Mesao Frio is a very small village above the Douro river and has 3-4 restaurants. This is maybe the best one. When we arrived around 8 pm the bar area was quite full but no one was eating in the restaurant part. We ordered a sirloin steak and a fish, haddock. The owner spoke a little English and was very... We stopped on our way back to Porto from Pinhao. So far it was the best restaurant in Porto area. Restaurant was full of locals. We asked very nice owner to recomend us sth from the region and he did. But first he gave us huge, tasty salad with fresh white bread. House wines red and white was the amazing... More

Absolutely wonderful dinner (pork) in this atmospheric restaurant! We were among the locals (no tourists our night) who were very excited about the football game. Our waiter was the owner and was completely welcoming to us -even bringing us a glass of the local port wine on the house.

Huge portions. Fresh and tasty food. They make you feel like you are eating in their home. You know it's good because it's filled with locals. We were the only foreigners. We enjoyed the owner's vinho verde, as well as his port, which he gave us on our way out. If you're looking for the real thing, this place is... More

On request the owner has made special fish dish for our family. It was simple bbq dorade fish for four persons served with a local white whine. As appetizer we received a salad and olives. Total cost including desert approximately 50 Euro.

A bit hidden at the very east of the the Mesao Frio "main street" next to a big butcher ("talho") you'll find this place. Owner's voice is like a bass opera singer but I suppose the cook is... More

Very local and excellent value! Charming location in the village. Try the baked cod and one of the beautiful handmade deserts. Skip the bottled wine and try the local stuff out of a jug.

Typical Portuguese restaurant with excellent fresh meat and fish on a plate. Owner makes his own wines and port which he is very proud of and willing to let you taste. If you're looking for simple but pure food and don't care for strip lights, this is a place to be.

A surprisingly large restaurant in the small village of Mesao Frio. Well patronised by locals at the end of their working day, with a range of steak, chop and fish dishes , simply served. Portions of meat, salad and accompanying french fries were enormous. Fine dining it is not, with no frills, but really good value.
