When we arrived it was still early and therefore quiet. We opted for a drink in the lounge area beforehand; a glass of wine and a cocktail for my partner.
When we were seated the restaurant had filled but it seemed as though there was only one sitting. We never felt rushed and the waiting staff service really did enhance our service. Maria helped us with our wine which was unbelievable (we don’t usually spend €60 but it was absolutely worth it!)
We decided to share the food- there was too much to choose from!
Tuna tartar (insane!!!)
Pork Spring Rolls (smoky and deep in flavour)
Vegetable Gyozas (the sauce was delicate and perfect!)
Duck Dumplings (Wow! So much meat!)
We then shared:
Soy and Ginger Teriyaki Chicken Skewers
Egg Fried Rice and a Broccoli Bowl - this was recommended and I was blown away!
We couldn’t eat dessert but we left absolutely full and wanting to visit again soon!

Absolutely fantastic meal at Umami. Cannot fault the food and service. One of our party has a gluten allergy and japanese food is difficult to adapt. Daniel (assisantant manager) was exceptional in accommodating our requests and made us feel at ease with the menu and allergy. Food was faultless, would highly recommend the pork belly, tuna tartare and carabinhero.
Chic setting, fabulous staff a must whilst in the area!
Will definitely return!

We had a wonderful meal with the family here, the food was stunning and the service was exceptional. We were looked after by Daniel and Daniela and they were super attentive and extremely helpful in particular guiding the kids through the menu.
There is no doubt it’s an expensive evening, but the quality befits the price. The setting and surroundings are also beautiful.

We booked for dinner at 7:00 pm (a table for 8) as there was no other time available, according to the restaurant… We had pre-dinner drinks (three bottles of Champagne) outdoors by the pool. That was the only pleasant and enjoyable part of an otherwise dreadful dining experience. We ordered an enormous selection from the menu to try and please everyone around the table, specifically requesting during the order, that each guest could try each dish: in other words at least one helping of each dish. The restaurant managed NOT to get this fairly easy to understand request. They missed out on at least half of our orders and whilst we were waiting for the food to arrive, the waiters kept on pouring wine in our glasses. We spent almost three hours over this meal, and it is entirely obvious that this restaurant is extremely badly run. There is clearly not enough staff in both the kitchen and the restaurant to look after guests. Another great example of the Quinta do Lago « food factories »: no proper management, no attention to detail, dreadful service… There are so many better options s around. Avoid this place at all (very expensive) cost.

The most anticipated restaurant of the year. We couldn't wait to visit and have this on our doorstep. When we visited the food was average mostly tasteless or too salty but nothing special. I probably wouldn't visit again. We had an unfortunate problem with our table which we had booked in the restaurant and whilst we sat in the bar our table was given away to a VIP customer. At the time we didn't understand this and the staff were very defensive and lied about why our table was no longer available. We later discovered the VIP who took the table and of course would have just liked transparency from the staff in this situation. TIP: turn the amazing feature bar into an area with barstools to sit and have a drink and dim the lighting a bit more for some nicer ambience. The waiter who served us was very knowledgable with the wine list which was good. Prices high which is okay but only if the food is a top standard which this wasn't. Disappointing overall.

We arrived to an empty restaurant and had to wait for a member of staff to seat us for our booking for almost 10 minutes.
This restaurant has no shade in the evening so be prepared to sit in the sun.
The quality of the food given the price point was poor. The squid was over cooked and very chewy not unlike frozen.
The chicken wings were very lean with barely any meat and again seemed very much like they came out of a freezer.
The skewers did not have any flame grilled flavour to them and were not overly flavourful.
The fried rice was unfortunately very salty and no better than what you might get at a late night takeaway spot.
Overall we paid almost £120 for a meal that felt as though we could have bought from a supermarket and service and atmosphere that left a lot to be desired.
Considering we had such a nice meal and experience at Bamboo nearby I would whole heartedly recommend eating there instead.
Please avoid!

We went to Umami for a drink. We waited 30 minutes for someone to take our order. Given that we had not reserved a table the restaurant refused to give us something to nibble on while having our drinks. We asked for peanuts at least which the restaurant did not provide. The waitress said that she could get us some popcorn which she eventually wasn’t able to give us because there were none left…. Given the so-called standard of the restaurant and the price range it is absolutely unacceptable for the restaurant not to be able to serve something to accompany the drinks. In addition, the service was slow and inefficient. Very disappointed with UMAMI. Umami is supposed to be the essence of deliciousness, well, everything was distasteful, from the service to the drinks we had…. It is simply a place to avoid.

Great addition to the eating choices in Quinta Do Lago. Stylish decor and really enthusiastic well informed staff serve a mix of sushi, sashimi and tempura. We (a group of6) opted for various yakitori and tempura to start, whilst a selection of 40 pieces of sushi and sashimi was being prepared. Everybody was delighted with all the individual dishes and enjoyed the environment and the ambience immensely.

▫️A newer addition to the QDL suite of restaurants, this experience was simply exceptional. From when you walk in you are blown away by the stunning setting & are treated to a sunset dinner experience like no other. The music makes for a romantic atmosphere & the quality cocktails make you not want to leave long after the sun has set.
🤵🏻♀️ Firstly I want to call out the staff who are a joy to be around & made the evening even more special. In particular I want to call out Raquel, José & Daniel. A word of pre warning, this is the sort of area that you get some snooty clientele, some advice if you happen to fall into that camp: treat the staff nicely & they pay you back in spades & your night is the all better for it.
🍽️ The food - there’s so many great looking options it made it very hard to choose but we had a selection which we thought was perfect for two people & left room for dessert which you definitely don’t want to miss out on. What we ordered:
💛 Sushi selection | Salmon Tartare
💚 Duck Dumpling | Pork Dim Sum
🩵 Ebi & Fermented Honey Bites | Broccollini
💜 Yakitori & Teriyaki | Beef & Padron Skewers
🤍 Sticky Mango Rice | Chocolate Textures
🥟 The dumplings & dim sum were some of our favourites. We loved the salmon tartare, such beautiful flavours coming through in the oyster sauce. The beef skewers were perfectly pink & so tender. Chicken was sticky & sweet as it should be. Can’t fault the food in any way.
🥂 There was a fantastic drinks & wine selection which we made our way through very easily, so much so we ran them dry of Sauvignon Blanc 🙃
🧾 When the setting is a premium one, be prepared to pay premium prices but as you can choose as much or as little as you want I highly recommend coming here regardless of budget as you will make it suit accordingly. The sunset views just can’t be missed. Definitely going down as one of our favourite spots during our stay in Portugal & we already can’t wait to go back.

I am a foodie who eats in lots of restaurants in the UK, ROW and Portugal. Umami is absolutely fantastic. The food is outstanding - really AMAZING. This is probably visit number 10 and I have never been disappointed. I think this is the first positive review I have ever written for any restaurant - the whole team who have been there pretty much since it opened are first class. I have taken friends and family and the whole experience is superb. Daniel and Jose make sure you have a fabulous evening and Ana is extremely welcoming. Thank you for making it so special for us every single time.
PS. Pre dinner cocktails as the sun sets are very special.

Having been fortunate enough to eat at Zuma and Roka in London a number of times I have to say the new Umami menu is on a par and if not better. The yellowtail tartare is the best we've ever had and the soft shell crab was beautiful. You can see the research, care and effort that has gone into refining and crafting the menu.
Miguel, the Restaurant Manager, is doing an absolutely outstanding job. His attentive nature and attention to first class customer service and the fact he genuinely loves the restaurant and the cuisine shines through. QDL are very lucky to have him.

Very limited menu for a Japanese restaurant, hugely overpriced for the offering and attitude was all wrong. Tempura prawns were an excellent starter but mains were very, very disappointing and nothing like the menu description.. beef rib was in fact 'featherblade' .. cold, with fat and grizzle and a tiny portion for almost €40 euro. Bass was well cooked but unfortunately again, a tiny portion. Mains were just that.. all veg was extra cost. Paid over €150 for two with wine and still hungary.. more fool us.

My sister and I went for dinner at Umami for our last evening in QDL. We were surely not disappointed. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. We waited a little bit for someone to take our order. However it was worth the wait. We were slightly lost with the menu. But the member of staff kindly helped us with our choices of cocktails and dishes & wine. Umami’s Japanese fusion cuisine is well thought and executed. The wine list might not be appealing if you don’t know Portuguese wines. But Umami can certainly guide you to select the perfect wine for your perfect dish. The cocktails are delicious (each cocktail has a theme according to your mood) and the staff is very professional without being too formal. I highly recommend their white tea to finish your meal (delicate taste and beautiful perfume).

I just read the feedback from a client who gave a “Desastrous” 1 star rating to the restaurant.
We were at Umami with friends the same evening.
I cannot comprehend the feedback!
We spent a wonderful evening with top food, top service and top wines all for a reasonable amount of money. Certainly one of the better dinners we had in a while.
The sea bass was exquisite..
