Pehkubaari was built from recycled materials. It was opened in 1995 and first it had only ten seats around an old ski cabin. Nowadays it has 1,300 seats. They have used haystacks, the roof of a rest home, the floor of a piggery, the log wall...of a barn etc. as building materials. They have a fireplace, haystacks, old skis, old ski boots, candles etc. in their interior.
They sell buffet lunches, hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, oven baked potatoes, garlic snails etc. I liked their carrot cake and iced tea, too.
They also have "Mualiman Sauna", the rent out sauna on the summit. Besides, they are building a new observation tower next to the restaurant. The observation tower will be opened in the fall (autumn) 2019, I think.
You can take a lift to the top. A ski lift is situated next to this restaurant in winter. If you take a panorama lift in summer, you have to walk one kilometer on the top. I think that in summer the best way to come in Pehkubaari is to walk Tahko Stairs (Tahkonportaat, about one thousand steps) from the village on the summit and then walk 500 meters to the left on the top. After visiting Pehkubaari we continued our walking along the southern slope to Huutavanholma nature conservation area and then back to the village of Tahko.More
