Having a last minute opportunity to lunch at Marianas the day after boxing day this last festive season was an unexpected surprise and a treat to look forward to. The day dawned beautifully and I was agog with excitment about our lunch date and once again to be sitting on Marianas stoep sipping elegantly chilled Sauvignon Blanc as Peter, Marianas... More

This is our third visit to Marianas and oh my goodness she has done it again. Mariana cooks from the heart and every dish is a journey through her food memories. Because of this, we order every dish on the menu and share them just to make sure we don't miss out! Peter, her husband, is charming and interesting and... More

There is a saying that states once you're 10x better, you escape competition. Mariana's is untouchable. It succeeded my wildest expectations. Good food, sincere people and a happy space where you linger over a glass of wine, reflecting on how good it is to be alive. No force feeding to accommodate the next seating, no airs and funnies - just... More

Against my better judgement I accepted an invitation too lunch at a Marianas. Our friends had booked months ago, as one needs to, and were making up numbers. As luck would have it it was a peach of a day, not one on which you want to spend three hours being served two mediocre courses indoors ( if ever there... More

We never visit the Western Cape without squeezing in a lunch at Marianas. Whilst husband Peter looks after "front of house" in his inimitable way, Mariana and her team of loyal helpers work their magic in the kitchen. Local produce and respect for natural flavours are the key to Mariana's fabulous recipes. Don't come away without purchasing her recently published... More

Thank you Pieter and Mariana for this most delightful weekend experience. All aspects of your food and hospitality cannot be faulted. Well done. Having to show off the best of my 3 courses would have to be the blue cheese panna cotta. Sublime.

"Fully booked" read the little blackboard at the entrance to Mariana's in Stanford - and it's easy to see why. This restaurant run by Mariana and front-of-house husband Peter is simply superb. It caters for less than 30 diners at capacity; they only do lunches and then only on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. What is served is totally seasonal... More

Every single mouthful is a burst of flavour. Sweet potato soup, baby artichokes straight out of the kitchen garden, the most delicious confit duck on a bed of lentils, all finished off with an amazing blue cheese panna cotta with crisp oatmeal biscuits and preserved melon. The service is great and Mariana graciously shares recipes. Can't wait for the recipe... More
