Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fabulous atmosphere, there were a few gatherings for birthdays at same time.
We went back for carvery on Sunday - well fabulous doesn't describe it enough. Food was excellent and service to match. Well worth the money. A very popular pub

Could not fault the food and service. Very welcoming, the chicken strips were cooked in the lightest of batters. You can tell that it is home made abs not from a package!

Lovely local pub food.
We were staying a few minutes away and decided to go out for food last minute. We had a lovely starter to share (although there was no crab claws as part of the starter) the prawns were really nice, we had barbecue chicken burgers for mains and they were really nice.
Overall nice local place for food. Define recommend.

Stopped by on way out to dinner. The pub didn’t serve food so stayed for a couple of drinks. This is a locals pub set one street back from the main road. Friendly barman, pool table was busy at the back

Had Sunday lunch here today. Very busy but prompt service. Carvery 2-4 on Sundays. Really lovely and very good value. Sat outside in lovely sunshine with our coffees. Will call again 👍🏻

I stopped off in the Woodpecker on the way back from Dublin, it was around 3 in the afternoon when I arrived, some places would only have a limited menu at this time, but not here, there was an extensive menu to choose from, you could have anything from soup and and sandwich to a 3 course meal, I picked soup which was minestrone, served with brown bread, and a chicken fajita wrap which had side salad and fries, it was excellent, my only problem was I wasnt hungry enough to finish it all, you wont leave here hungry. I will have to give a special mention also to the gentleman serving, he was excellent and very attentive. I will definitely be paying a return visit and I have already recommend it to a few family members and friends.

The food choices are varied and very good. The service was prompt and friendly. Hours are limited though so be sure to go on a day when they are open.

Visited here yesterday...and despite the Vegetarian Friendly notice on TripAdvisor....the carvery menu was made up of all meat dishes. There were no vegetarian options or fish options. I asked the waitress who said to ask the chef and he might be able to organise something. If you're not going to cater for vegetarians or pescatarians..then don't advertise your hostelry as Vegetarian Friendly!

While staying at a lovely holiday home in Ashford, we decided to try The Woodpecker Bar & Restaurant on a Thursday night. The food was fabulous! We’ve had fish n chips many time while traveling in Scotland and Ireland and these were the BEST by a mile. So we returned a few nights later and they were still the BEST by a mile. We also tried the pasta and it was very good. I highly recommend the Eton Mess for dessert. Very friendly service. Killian served us both times and we really appreciated his attentiveness.

We had carvery lunch here today. There was a nice variety of meat and vegetables catering for all tastes. The lamb & roast beef were perfectly cooked as was the vegetables. The desserts (Eton Mess & Profiteroles) were delicious. Very good value, comfortable space and lovely staff. Highly recommended

The other reviews for this pub/restaurant are really good, that's why we went but our experience was not good. We went for a bit of Sunday lunch, it was late afternoon so the kitchen was closed when we arrived and we waited 15 mins for it to reopen which was fine. However, we would have liked a drink while we were waiting, nobody came to take our order so we had to go to the bar. We were told it would be dropped over. 20 mins later and still no drinks. Had to ask the waitress again for the drinks when she came to take our food order. The curry was bland and watery, although one of us had the chicken burger and that was ok. Nobody asked us if our meal was ok. We felt that the staff just didn't have time to serve us, although it wasn't that busy. Desserts weren't great either, bland also and the ice cream had ice particles in it. All in all it took 2 hours to have a 2 course meal which is ridiculous for pub grub (this includes the 15 mins the kitchen was closed). Very disappointing considering the other good reviews. We won't be back!

A lovely place to eat in the beautiful surroundings of Ashford. This is a particularly good place for Sunday lunch with an expansive menu, really good quality, tasty food and lovely staff. Look forward to visiting again soon!
