This restaurant has taken classic Tuscan dishes, deconstructed them and, as a result, raised Tuscan food to a fine dining level. We had the tasting menu and it was superb. Wine list is maybe a bit extensive but we found excellent local white and red that were reasonable priced. With the typical relaxed Italian service; so nice not to have... More

With my hubby it's more than 15 years that we follow Michelin Guide suggestion and eat most of the time in Michelin-starred Restaurants. This is the the very first time we got incredibly upset (we are a raw-fish and tender meat lovers [cooked or raw] and we love Chianina, Fassone, Kobe (that we can now eat even in Bergamo) and... Place is not really cute, that's sure not the reason to go there. But once entered the restaurant, you feel carried away from the real world! We had the "degustation menu" she already after the first starter we understood that something special is happening here... from A to Z it was just the best gastronomic experience we ever made, the... This is an update to my original review of May 2012. After close to one month of near continuous rain in early November we decided we needed a weekend break – Mocajo would fit the bill? Wrong! In fairness we had postponed the trip on two occasions BECAUSE of the atrocious weather but after travelling 350km we had expected the... More

I was part of a group of food and wine lovers touring Tuscany for a week. This was our best meal by a long shot, beating out other Two Star Michelin restaurants. The staff was attentive, the courses creative and well prepared, and the wines perfectly paired. If you are traveling between the Bolgheri sea side and Volterra or Sam... More

What a surprise! After a lovely day spent between medieval villages and the stunning nature, we arrived at the restaurant Mocajo. We went on the recommendation of friends and so we were prepared to a good place. After the warm welcome, the real sorpesa began with the reading of the menu where we found a number of highly original dishes.... More

One of the sad facts in recent years is the decline of good quality, value-for-money restaurants in Tuscany. A few, like Mocajo, still exist but generally they are remote from the tourist honeypots. Guardistallo is not an obvious tourist destination - it is 10km east of Cecina and the Via Aurelia running to Rome, and 30 km southwest of Volterra.... More

I love Tuscany - I even lived there for 5 years - but I find the Tuscan cuisine much less interesting than what most guides and journalists will tell you, it's very often oldfashioned and too oily. Laura (kitchen) and her brother Fabrizio are second generation in this former pasta manufacture. The cuisine is radically Tuscan, but with a personal... More
