After reading the reviews I was curious about the place. Stayed in the walking street now for a few days: restaurant hasn't been open. This morning we saw why: Thai people were taking out all inventory. Looks like this restaurant will either be undergoing a huge metaphor or will be closed! No idea what's going on but it's closed!

This place looked inviting but I was disappointed. Firstly it was difficult to enjoy the meal because so many people were smoking cigarettes. For a French restaurant I expected a wine list but there was only some unspecified wine by the glass. The salad dressing had something curdled in the bottom of the bottle which was open on the top.... More

Frequented by many French expatriate locals, enjoyable wines at reasonable prices. The owner George is a great character and serves some delicious fare! His steaks are all French cuts such as bavette or onglet - cooked to your liking and served with spinach, roast potatoes green said, delicious home made dressings and sauces and fresh French bread. Filet of Pork... More

Was recommended by my hotel. Friendly French host who clearly likes a drink...or two. Had the smoked salmon starter as the mussels weren't available (understandable as its low season) followed by the rump steak. Why do the French think thin cut steak is good!? Anyway it was ok. The bearnaise was curdled, served with fried garlic potatoes (probably the nicest... More

Good selection of authentic French food (and a decent selection of very drinkable wine which is unusual for Thailand) provided by George and his staff, as good as I have had in France. Nice feel to the restaurant as it is set up very much like a bar in France and frequented by French ex-pats

La Bonne Franquette is located on the popular walking street in the Chinatown area of Maenam. Opened about 15 years ago by George, a bubbly guy from Paris who has a passion for classic French food. All dishes are homemade from the finest ingredients and the attention to detail is superb. Fantastic menu with everything from Rock Lobsters to French... More

Extremely good food, we had the salmon fillet and tuna steak and would highly recommend. Very glad we were asked how we would like the tuna cooked. Delicious wine too. A very welcome break to Thai food. It was really nice to go to a restaurant with a small but refined menu that specialisesd in a certain type of food.... More

We really enjoyed our dinner at La Bonne Franquette. Due to the low season we could not get the escargots/snails but it wasn't a problem since we had a lovely goats cheese salat instead. The duck breast and the steak were perfectly cooked and we went crazy about the potatoes, very nice. The owner was very helpful in explaining the... More

George has been feeding the French in Maenam for longer than even he can remember. Specializing in beef (en français, boeuf) as well as the duck. The succulent cuts of meats that appear on Franquette's new menu are certain to make you mouth water. There's also fine, and not-so-expensive, house wine to indulge your palate. This is a favorite of... More

We recently dined at this little bistro in the very quint Mae Nam. Run by a Parisienne, it is indeed a touch a Paris in Ko Samui, and well worth a visit. The prices are reasonable, the service and the food very good.
