Having visited Jersey on holiday after being able to go to Spain, we were looking for a luxury dining experience that didnt break the bank. Sumas was fantastic. On arrival we had our temperature taken and then were shown to our table which was a lovely round table with comfy fabric chairs. The restaurant is small so we unfortunately were not on the terrace area, but the whole restaurant is very pretty with stone walls and has a nice atmosphere so didnt make too much of a difference. You can still see out to the sea and the great views of Gorey. Food was great - scallop starter with truffle was delicious. We had two children aged 8 and 9 who were accomodated for, and the kids menu was very good value. Would definitely come back to Sumas if every in Jersey and will be recommending to my friends. Feels like fine dining but was comparable with other restaurants in the area which were not as "posh" so good value we thought!

Hand sanitiser and a wrist temperature check on arrival, and then a very normal Sunday lunch. The tables inside are well-spaced, and the whole restaurant was open to the balcony, so felt airy. The Sunday lunch menu choices included a generous roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, braised lamb, cod and 2 options for lobster - grilled or salad. The vegetables were lightly-cooked with good texture. Starters included Jersey crab with pleasant pickled radish, and a cold pork collar terrine. The hot chocolate fondant went down well. Some delay taking our dessert order, so feeling slightly understaffed, but overall a very enjoyable experience.

The menu at Sumas has changed beyond recognition, this is good, not because the previous menu lacked anything, but freshness and seasonal cooking is really fundamental and Sumas has achieved this in spades. So many restaurants rely on their tried and tested recipes, however from the consumer point of view this can become tedious. Not so at Sumas our meal was super fresh and great flavours we all enjoyed our various servings. In addition the team are great, friendly and efficient, we enjoyed a super evening. Finally the wine list is sufficiently extensive and great value, the house rose Champagne was super for our celebration

This restaurant was recommended by two separate Jersey friends and despite booking 6 weeks ago I was disappointed that although I asked for a terrace table to celebrate my husband’s birthday it was not forthcoming. Our order was taken and bread and crab butter was served, I have a shell fish allergy being violently ill if I eat it so therefore ordered food that did not contain shellfish Most restaurants nowadays ask if anyone has an allergic reaction to food when they take an order and certainly don’t serve something without asking first. I ordered steak which was full of fat and gristle and certainly shouldn’t have left the kitchen as the chef must have been aware as it was served sliced. I then waited nearly half an hour for a replacement by which time my husband had finished his meal so I was left to eat by myself. Not the experience we both wanted for his birthday. Our bill was reduced by 10% but this did not make up for the very disappointing experience we received. The staff were very pleasant but I’m afraid we could not recommend this restaurant based on our experience, were we just unlucky?

We were staying in Gorey for a week and friends had told us that Sumas was the must place to go. We could not get a table until our last evening so had eaten out in Gorey at every other restaurant by then. Such a shame that our final night did not live up to the rest. We both had pigeon breast to start, mine was OK but my husband’s was a little tough. We both then followed with half a lobster priced at £28. This was served with 5-6 whole new potatoes with melted butter and a bit of grilled lettuce. We were lucky to get about 5 mouthfuls of lobster each. Just doing something more with the potatoes would have made the dish a little more appetising. They gave each table a small loaf which we found undercooked. The best part of the meal was the appetiser which was a small filled beignet (this was not an amuse bouche and therefore was not complimentary as in many restaurants). A glass of Rose at £11 again was overpriced. All in all, if you are in Gorey look at some of the other excellent restaurants. We may well have been unlucky as the reviews are all excellent but it was the most expensive meal that holiday and the most disappointing.

The title pretty much sums it up. Sumas overlooks Gorey Harbour with its Castle as a lovely backdrop. It's not the cheapest restaurant around but it still remains good value for money. Quality ingredients used to create some very tasty dishes with a real depth of flavour. Nor do you have to worry about 'nouvelle cuisine' portions. Some even have accompanying salad/veg which is not always the case in such places. Any sides that you do need as extras are also reasonable in price. They have an extensive wine list covering every pocket so you don't have to remortgage the house. The lovely lady who served us was very helpful with our ordering answering any questions we had around how some dishes had been prepared. It was a special occasion for us and we came away having had a lovely dining experience. Tip: book early and get a table on the terrace to enjoy the views as well as the food.

As always, my meal in Sumas last week was fabulous and astounding value for money. I was lucky enough to have the three course set menu for just £25 and the team made changes to ensure my dishes were diary free. The front of house team are so friendly and professional.

We went to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and it couldn’t have been any better. The food is delicious, we had three courses of stunning delicate flavours and unbelievable presentation. The kitchen staff serve wonders. Staff are just amazing. Funny, attentive and professional, we gelled with out waitresses who was hilarious. Our sneaky son arranged to pay for our meal and staff kept the whole thing quiet, just a class act all round.

We had high hopes for this evening and they were surpassed. Centre stage was the food, which was outstanding. My wife had oysters which are her favourite and she really enjoyed the orange and chilli flavouring. I had the scallops which were great. We both had the freshly caught sea bass. This was simply fabulous. All the fish and seafood is locally and sustainably sourced eg line caught and scallops dived for. The waiting staff were very chatty and friendly but also very professional and responsive, so the service was excellent. We also had a chance to chat to James, the chef who prepared all the food. He was delightful and we could see and hear who inspires the passion and professionalism for the whole experience. It was great!

We ate here for our anniversary on a Wednesday and sat on the terrace having booked a few days in advance. Food was incredible. Service was impeccable and because I hadn’t had crab claw before the waiter quietly mentioned it to the chef who cracked it for me before delivering to my table. This was a lovely touch and one I really appreciated. Highly recommend.

We are so lucky in Jersey to have some excellent restaurants and what a great way to celebrate the weekend but with lunch at Sumas on Saturday. It was perfection, we parked nearby and strolled 10 mins away. Beautiful location, near one of Jersey prettiest castles so the stroll is a bonus. We started with Oysters in beef jus, followed with scallops for starters and steak tartare for main. All fresh, light and simple showcasing the produce. I didn’t want it to end. Hubby was driving so non-alcoholic beer for him and I had a half bottle of Chablis. All top notch! Thank you.

I would like to thank Paul who was really helpful in accommodating our change of booking and was also still able to fulfill our request of a table with a view! In fact we had the best table in the restaurant which had an amazing view of Gorey castle & the harbour. We had the Tennerfest menu which was extremely tasty and excellent value, although we felt that the supplement of £8 for the beef fillet & ox cheek was quite a lot. Maybe a different course could have been on the menu instead, to keep within the spirit and price of Tennerfest. However we did have a lovely evening, the service was excellent, the staff were lovely, very friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble, all of which added to our wonderful evening and dining experience. This is certainly one of Jersey's higher end restaurants and we will definitely return next time we are in Jersey.

Sumas is a wonderful restaurant. They have a fantastic weekend brunch available and their dinner menu is fantastic. They take the trouble to source quality meat and produce and it shows in their food. The chocolate fondant was absolute perfection.

We came here to celebrate my birthday and had a lovely meal. The restaurant honoured my request for a table on the balcony and we had a stunning view of the castle and the harbour. Service was friendly and polite without being over-bearing. Our meal (especially the lamb and the seafood-stew) were outstanding and I loved the little candle in my panna cotta! Yes, it was expensive but given that it was a special occasion, we felt that it was well worth spoiling ourselves at Sumas.

My husband and I stumbled across Sumas for lunch on Friday and it was a flawless experience from start to finish. I'm 3 months pregnant and the staff were very attentive to my dietary needs. Had a wonderful 'Virgin Mary' to start and my husband really enjoyed the locally brewed beer. My half grilled lobster with jersey royals and greens was perfectly cooked/seasoned and an ideal portion size. My husband had a beautifully cooked turbot with shrimp butter. Our dessert was wonderful -we shared the Sable Breton, which wasn't just a biscuit (!), it was a really imaginative creation with vanilla and chocolate cream, salted caramel sauce with fresh and dried strawberries -the flavours were perfect! Clearly a very talented chef, really warm but professional staff and chic but cosy surroundings. THE place to eat in Jersey.
