Found this place thanks to Happy Cow When we arrived we were asked to wait in line for a table; but were quickly seated at the only free table once I indicated, using Google Translate, that we had a reservation. As with most places in Japan...their spoken English was rather rudimentary Being the only vegan I chose the the vegetarian menu (Shojin Ryori) which in fact is vegan. I opted for the second of the three set menus (5000 yen). Expensive compared to the set menus chosen by my family (2800 yen) but so worth it. The food was refined, tasty and plentiful. HIGHLY recommended. Definitely deserves five starsMore

Everything was delicious. They seem to only be open for lunch up until 6pm. We walked in late without a reservation. They have non vegan food. Definitely recommend.

I was at Hanabishi on the 10th of November. There was a bit of a line, so I had to wait a bit (it was around 11:30 am/I knew that in Japan you need to go to restaurants early unless you want to wait 2...hours on huge lines). I waited half an hour so it was great. The staff was so friendly with me, and provided me with a room on the first floor (tables on tatami and also some close to the balcony with a view to Koyasan), even though I was a female solo traveler. The meal was really delicious, I ate the vegetarian set, which was 2000¥. It also had dessert which I didn't know. I highly recommend this place, but go early.More

We went here for lunch since we really struggled to find an open place or a place that had a table for us. And we got lucky, the food is yummy. We ordered a bento box (we thought it was good value for 2000 yen)...which was full of different veggies, some fish and chicken. The ambiance is nothing too exciting, just a simple place.More

A swish, little, very Japanese restaurant on the main street, behind a glass window with pictures of the various bento boxes full of Japanese food. We chose the least expensive box, which at Yen2000, made for a bargain of a lunch. So many edibles in...a little box, and I am going to list them for you (I may have one of two wrong): Miso soup, tofu, tea, salmon, large prawns, small shrimp, 3 sorts of rice, mushroom, bean, potato, scrambled egg, ginger, apple, watermelon, and a few other unidentables - WOW. I loved it. No English was spoken, but you didn't need it, for a quiet and peaceful lunch.More

we've been here for lunch - and not disappointed; a good bento box served quickly, with nice view of the city. The place is crowded mid-day ;)

Lovely place, pretty sights, pleasant lunch. We were group of 6 and were offered a private room upstairs with simple decoration but very japanese feel. We were most glad. Our lunch came slowly but we didnt mind even though it meant we could not make...as many stops as planned. Have to say that our lunch looked prettier than the taste.More

We found this place by accident and it was late in the afternoon so we decided to have lunch here. Unfortunately, they could only serve vegetarian set (don't know why) but we just went for it. The set was comprised of many small dishes but...the highlight was grilled eggplant topped with plum sauce. It was delicious and the sauce was very tasty I wish I had a bowl of it. Then we had orange sauce custard for dessert. I loved it. Not too sweet for me. The price was a bit higher than other Japanese restaurants but you get what you pay for.More

the food was really below average compared to any other meal we had in over two weeks in Japan. And expensive. The setting is not particularly nice and the wait is long. We really did not get the recommendations for this place. --> Go for...a coffee shop near the cemetery instead.More
