Good restaurant after a day trip to the Shiretoko area. The shell fish sashimi is the best. Like the decoration there.

Short distance walk from Rausu Road Station. 2 of us shared a grilled Hokke set with 2 rice and soup. It was very fresh and delicious. Cost was Y1880. Help yourself to hot tea. One of the stalls inside Michi-no-eki also belongs to owner. Friendly...staff. You can order crabs or uni sets. Would love to visit again.More

Rausu is a small fishers town on Shiretoko peninsular. However this place can easily beat many restos from the big cities! Really great selection of locally sourced seafood, everything is right from the water. Recommend to go for one tei-shoku set per person and perhaps...a seasonal sashimi to share. Prices are very very reasonable for what you get. Count ca 2,500 per person. Worth it 100%! Owners are very friendly and happy to help selecting the current specialties.More

I don't even know the name of the eatery we went to! But when I google best restaurants in Rausu, out came Jun no Banya and I recognised the picture. I read the reviews and realised that we just "stumbled" into a good dining place!...That's why I copied the title of Serendipity from a reviewer who goes by the name of AHA2006. The review was made in 2014. Thanks :) We were in Rausu on 22 May 2017 and it was a rainy day. Earlier in the morning we had to cut short our visit to the Shiretoko 5 lakes due to the rain. Then we drove across the Shiretoko Pass to Rausu. With plenty of time to spare before our "KIller whale" cruise, we drove past the seafood market and decided to check it out. Of the many stalls we randomly chose one to ask about the sea urchin & crabs. We found out that the stall also run a restaurant nearby and we could buy the fresh seafood from the market and eat them at the restaurant. So we bought a box of sea urchin (Jpy2,500) and a big hairy crab (Jpy3,500). By the time we got to the restaurant it started to rain again. I could only managed to take one picture of the restaurant outside! Indeed this place has character and charm. The interior decor is old school and has a number of antiques like a heater with a black kettle, etc. The menu is quite good and price is reasonable. We also ordered the ikura-don from them. They very quickly chopped up the crab and served it together with the sea urchin plus rice and miso soup for us. The seafood was superb, very very fresh. Needless to say the sea urchin was so so sweet! Never eaten so much sea urchin before! Our driver is from Sapporo, told us that we would have to pay at least double the price in Sapporo. So happy with such a good fine! He also told us that Jun no Banya was used for location shoot for a very popular tv serial years ago. Highly recommend Jun no Banya.More

You maybe taken back when you first arrive at the restaurant. Once you are inside, you can feel it is a place that was set up with much care and love. It is quaint and small but the owner has put in a lot of...thoughts in decorating the place. The few ladies that are serving in the restaurant are friendly. Do not miss the Kinki fish which are normally very expensive and small in Singapore! Here, you can get a big one superbly prepared for under $40. The fresh sea urchin is also something you do not want to miss!More

Rausu is very small fishing village, not much selections of food or meals. Luckily we've read all the reviews. Btw, thanks for all information and recommendations. And it is true! This is the right place to go for seafood in Rausu. Beside sashimi, they also...sell steam fish. We had it and found that its really fresh and yummy. The exterior view of this restaurant is very colorful, kinky and funny but make it's looks very unique and just standing alone beside the corner of main road. The atmosphere of this restaurant was warm and very romantic ya-tai feel when u seated inside. I guessed beside the food, this is another attraction point should go when u r in Rausu.More

Rausu is a very small fishing village but the seafood here is phenomenon given its 'farm to table'. This restaurant has a stall in the nearby market which you can buy the seafood and haven them prepared at the restaurant. Alternatively, you just show up...at the restaurant and choose from the many set meals or from seafood selection. If you are into fish, you definitely do not want to miss out on the kinki fish which is a delicacy in this region. Not to be missed is the uni (sea urchin) which are sourced from this region too. All super fresh and delicious. You won't be able to get seafood as close to the source elsewhere.More

We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance. We first drove to the seafood market nearby to just check out what's fresh on sale and to take some photos. It was 9am and we have already eaten breakfast in our hotel earlier in Utoro. We saw...all these magnificent succulent crabs for sale and were very tempted but didn't think of eating. Vendor informed us he has a restaurant nearby where his wife could cook it for us. Not wanting to miss out the chance to try the local fresh crab and sea urchins, we decided to purchase our seafood and go for another round of breakfast! So we drove to this charming and quaint little restaurant nearby and wife was already waiting for us after receiving her husband's phone call. She prepared us the seafood right away and made miso soup with our crab. Boy! It was sweet and tasty! It was a foggy morning with wind blowing hard outside and loudspeaker playing some soothing Japanese oldies. What a nice way to just sit back and enjoy the ocean view of Rausu while sipping our hot soup and munching on our crab, clams, and sea urchin. It was a perfect co-incidence! We paid $45 for all our seafood, and add $8 for the cooking and soup/rice. What a great deal! Even if we couldn't move with a very full stomach afterwards, it's a once in a lifetime experience not to be missed!!More

We went there because of the comments on this website, and they were right, the fish is REALLY good. We took the sashimi set, and had a lot of different fishes, very good and very fresh. Anyone who likes fresh fish can go in this...small and nice restaurant. The woman which serves speaks english perfectly and is very nice.More

Got to know of this place from friends who have been here before. A novelty of the visit is the facade of the restaurant itself...its odd looking wooden structure. Upon entry to the place, the lady proprietor could guess where we visitors were from...spot on....It could only mean many of my country folks have been here before. My order was the main sashimi bowl with everything on it....and I mean everything! At JYP2,950, it was a steal. The seafood was really fresh, and the serving came with a bowl of miso soup with crab. It was the sweetest soup I had throughout my trip. Simply a great meal...even if it means making your a trip all the way to Rausu just for this meal. Will be back for sure.More

We visited the place by chance. It is a quaint and cosy restautant, where being by the coast, they serve seafood. One of the owner, 73 years old lady, looks so young and warm. Language is probably a barrier but they took the extra effort...to make sure they serve the right orders to the customer. Food is definitely excellentMore

The restaurant is in a standalone funny-looking house with really unique decor. The waitress was extremely friendly and spoke just enough English so that we could order the food we liked. Choices included sashimi which was very very fresh and some kind of weird-looking fish...which was only found in Hokkaido. The restaurant is located along the seashore with the Russian-controlled island right in front of you (20 miles away). Very scenic view indeed. Parking is just right outside of the house, thus very convenient. It was a very unique, pleasant, fun, yummy experience. Will definitely come back to this place if I visit Rausu again!More
