Called in for lunch after a morning site seeing. Menu very limited for vegetarians. Whilst looking at the menu the chef walked through the bar. He smelt so strongly of cigarettes smoke we decided not to stay for our meal. The rear door into the garden was also littered with cigarette ends. Very disappointed.

We visited here for a meal for a friends birthday. Couldn't fault the service and the food was amazing, the only sting in the tail was the wine, which costs £6.99 to buy from any wine merchants and is priced at £21 a bottle here. Our own fault I guess for not looking at the wine list before ordering but... More

Enjoyed an evening meal here on New Year's eve. Lovely menu with a variety to suit all tastes. The furnishings are beautiful and the ambience very pleasant.

We visited on our anniversary , we have been in before but not since the new extension. It's a really nice pleasant atmosphere and when we arrived it was busy but not over crowded thankfully. The staff were fabulous. The meal itself was the best meal we have eaten to date. The menu was different from the norm but not... More

We visited The Battlesteads to celebrate our wedding anniversary and a birthday and were not disappointed in any way at all. We had the Tasting Menu with the accompanying Wine Flight, which was extremely good value in itself. It was a quiet night, midweek. The newly refurbished dining room has a lovely ambience. Service was friendly and efficient and, crucially,... More

Super day out. Made a Christmas wreath under the careful eye of an expert. All materials were provided. The three course lunch was excellent in all respects, with two glasses of wine. Coffee was served on arrival and a glass of mulled wine was enjoyed by all half way through the morning. A must for next years calender

What a wonderful find! Found this place on Travelzoo. Off peak deal with an 8 course taster menu. This was absolutely superb. The flavours in each dish were divine. All the food is locally sourced, the meats, cheeses, the vegetables which they grow in their own polytunnels. Homemade bread, jams, sauces, purées etc. The whole hotel is geared towards sustainability... More

The Battlesteads never fails! We call in on a regular basis usually on our way to Kielder. The food is very good as is the service, real ale and the atmosphere. It was Friday and most of us had fish and chips-verdict from everyone was perfect! They are extending at the moment and the plans look fabulous as does their... More
