A poor welcome. When I asked if we could sit in the beer garden, the waiter looked upset, and service was very slow. To the point I was convinced we were being ignored- and it wasn’t busy.
It wasn’t busy because not only was customer...service poor, but the quality and portion size of the food was shameful.
If you are hungry after a walk, don’t eat here.
I paid £20 for a seafood ‘platter. It should be readvertised as an appetiser. And stale ‘crusty’ bread . See picture.More
No booking, no problem. Friendly staff, very good choice food and beer. Good portions, too full for dessert. Veg cooked as it should be. Reccomend the Salmon Salad. Would go again, tomorrow. Bryan Martin Dorothy.
First time at here but really enjoyed our visit. The staff were really welcoming and friendly . Our food was delicious , especially the steak and ale pie , which was packed with steak and really tasty. The beer was also enjoyable . We will...return if in the area again.More

Booked for early evening meal. The lamb shoulder was delicious, melted in the mouth & just fell off the bone with good mix of well cooked veg. Very tasty indeed. My husband had steak pie which was filled with big chunks of tender delicious steak. He was really pleased...with his choice.Service was excellent. The young lady that served us was very pleasant, polite & efficient. We will certainly eat there again when in that area.Thank you.More
This maybe an unfair review but it’s meant in good faith…
We stopped by to see if we could get a table at 6pm when the place was totally empty… we said we would be gone by 7pm.
The silly waiting stuff would not even...entertain this…. Guys you’ve been closed for months and you make money by turning the tables and serving lots of customers….. makes no business sense whatsoever ever…I find it so frustrating.
Food looks very good by the way.More
Food was absolutely fantastic! Service was excellent too! Not knowing that lunch time officially ended at 2pm, we called the restaurant 20mins before to ask if we could dine in as we were 10mins drive away. The servers were very kind and said it was...fine. We had lamb shoulder and peppered pot beef. The lamb was amazing! Beef was a little on the ‘sweet’ side for me but the meat was tender and tasty. Would definitely return for another visit!More
We stayed next door at the b and b for 2 nights and came to the old ship both nights.
Night 1 my partner had sausage and mash with eton mess for dessert. I had cajun chicken salad with chocolate fudge cake and salted caramel...ice cream. Our review for this is:
My partner felt he could have done with 3 sausages rather than 2 as he was very hungry after a long walk. We had looked at the menu online beforehand and he was quite looking forward to a steak bur this wasnt on the menu when we went in? So we have considered that in the rating of 4 stars.
The dessert was well portioned and looked good. It also tasted good!
For my meal my salad was lovely but too many tomatoes for my liking and could have had more peppers perhaps or cucumber (just my preference) chicken was verg hot and super tasty! My dessert was lush! Good size and well presented
Partner had sticky toffee pudding and we both had fish and chips! It was lovely! Good size fish lovrly crispy batter not soggy. Chips were nice and plenty of mushy peas. Everything was exscrly what we would expect.
The song choices were interesting....some Christmas songs on? I believe the disc maybe stuck which was a little funny.
.drink choices were ok i had a few differnt gin and my partner tried a few ales.More
