Ordered here regularly, food was bland again, its too hit and miss to keep going back.will just head to tullamore now instead
Very poor meal. No flavour and bad value. garlic nAn was green and had no flavour. The onion bhajis were €4 and there was only 2 of them.
What’s with the negative reviews? This place is a gem. We get a takeaway here nearly every week and we feel pretty lucky to have such a good Indian in a rural town. I’m vegetarian and my wife’s an omnivore. The dishes are tried and...tested staples. Good, casual food. I believe this is the best Indian in County Laois.More
I will never ever visit Great India Restaurant in Portarlington in my lifetime again. The guy who takes the order in the reception does not even know how to behave with the customers and he is shouting at me for asking information. He is treating...me as if he is giving me food for free.More
This used to be one of the hidden gems of this town. Changes in ownership have turned this place into what it really is: a takeaway. If you are prepared to wait for about an hour to get your main course then this place is...right. The service is not as friendly as it used to be. Unfortunately you can’t turn back the clock.More
This Indian never fails to make delicious food and there is perfect portions made every time. The counter staff are very nice and polite and there is always quick service!
Only ever got take away here but out of all the times I have done so, I have never once been let down. Food is gorgeous and priced reasonably. Seems each item is cooked to order which is always a good thing. Very friendly staff...who know their food and are confident in giving ideas if asked.More
Why did I give this place another chance ? Food is generally okay but as for the service...!!! It's as if they don't want you there, never again.
This is a small restaurant on Portarlington's French Church Street. We have always had great Indian dishes here, e.g. the complimentary poppadoms with delicious 3 dips, typical starters like fried prawns or tandoori chicken, freshly prepared mains like Garam Masala, Vindaloo, divine sides like Sag...Aloo (spicy spinach with potatoes) and Tarka Dal (spiced lentils), various rice dishes and different sorts of nan bread. With the poppadoms there is no better drink than Indian Beer, and the mains go lovely with either white or red wine. The staff is always nice. The interior is typical Indian so overall it's a nice dip into Indian culture for a couple of hours. Prices are reasonable, portions very generous, reservation not necessary most of the times even though the restaurant is popular hence does a lot of takeaways.More
I love love love this restaurant. We normally always go for a takeaway and food is always fresh. Very authentic Indian food.
Have been to this place a few times and seems to be going down hill quickly. Service has slipped and a little too lax. Food generally okay. Decor needs upgrading and is old fashioned. Generally no other people in the restaurant so atmosphere is non...existent and is not helped by the staff who disappear. Why is it so hard to get a glass of water? Please leave the jug on the table! Unfortunately, there is no competition in the town as they are the only Indian restaurant in Port. PITY.More
The staff are wonderful and very hospitable. The food was fresh and so tasteful. I loved the overall atmosphere in the Great India!! I couldn't recommend them enough!! They are an asset to Portarlington!!
We have only had food in the restaurant a few times as we usually get a take away but food is always fab.
Just back from a beautiful meal with my children and husband. As always the food was top class, service amazing and I have my little box of leftovers for tomorrow. This restaurant never lets us down, would suggest everyone call in for a sit down,...Don't forget it's an Indian restaurant, so expect good Indian food, I have just read a review below which some said they were not happy with their food, from memory they mentioned garlic bread and chips, we go to an Indian for neither of these, next time stick to what they cook best.More
