We weren't sure what to expect here. The prices were quite a bit more than we would want to spend on a midweek meal but there are two or three set meals. I had lamb cooked on a wood burning grill and my wife fish plus starters and pudding. The food was excellent and considering the surroundings and a fantastic... More

Great restaurant, with excellent menu - plenty of fresh fish and seafood dishes to choose from as well as steak dishes cooked over a charcoal fire. Serving staff were very attentive and helpful. Overall, a great dining experience. Try to book a table overlooking the ocean, well worth it.

This is a unique place to go for lunch or dinner! The view on the ocean, the cosst and the bay of Royan is fantastic! The seafood is fresh and the variety is abundant. I recommend to select from the list (à la carte) rather than a menu; this is worthwhile for little more money and much more pleasure. Efficient... More

Lunchtime special is good value ,he rest is meagre and somewhat industrial especially desserts. Not too sure about hygiene two of us were rather ' uncomfortable ', for the rest of the day.

A first time visit to this place. Went with family for a celebration meal. There was 11 of us in total. We were seated outside in the covered over corridor with views overlooking the sea. Great views but if yr facing the sea when the sun is setting then take yr sunglasses with you as it shines right directly in... More

The view is the draw here. It's like sitting on a ship overlooking the mouth of the Gironde estuary as it opens into the Atlantic, imagining the Cockleshell heroes canoeing past in the dark all those years ago to reach Bordeaux, 100 km south, the majestic Royal lighthouse, La Phare de Cordouan, guarding the entrance. Book and ask for a... More

A personal recommendation, rather than recent reviews got us to visit during our Indian Summer. First, it must have the best view of all restaurants in St George and Royan, a great start as we were only one table from the massive windows(you need a reservation for the top view). The menu at e14.50 gave 4 good choices for both starter... More

Cardinal was one of our favourites, not just for the tremendous view but also for the menus. Delicious! Lately it seems that the menu is a little 'deja vu' and the quality slipping. We arrived to celebrate a joint anniversary/birthday and had arranged for an 'Omelette Norwegienne'. It was brilliant, but the entrees and plats were just average. 200 euros... More

Despite the negative recent reviews we went there because we used to go there some time ago. The food was more than OK, either oysters, sea food or fish, all were very satisfied with their meal. The staff was friendly, too. One might look suspicious at the fact that there are only cutish waitresses. Ours was very nice and smiling... More

This long-established restaurant is located on the cliff with great sunset view. the restaurant has expanded over the years, but obviously at the expense of quality. It was certainly a good restaurant before, but is only mediocre nowadays. They barely propose local products, the grilled fish is not more that average. Overall rather expensive for what it is.
