We called in here for dinner after an awards night, the inner city atmosphere and the food were delicious, would recommend.

I love the Veggie Bar. It's one of Melbourne's iconic vegetarian restaurants. The food is good, but its's all pretty much a stranded type of fare. They are one stop shop for all the popular dishes, so you're bound to find something that you will enjoy.

We were taken here on our first day in Melbourne by a friend. Absolutely loved the menu, finding it hard to choose just one thing from the mouth-watering selection. Too much choice to go into detail on here, but suffice to say, there was a wide selection of food, ranging from burgers and pizzas, to Asian noodle dishes, and so... More

Food was tasteful but came out a bit cold, service was ok but the music coming from the kitchen for the chefs kind of ruined the atmosphere for me. A lot of rushing on a Saturday night but it is packed so good vibes there!! And to point out the obvious it's perfect if you're a veggie literally spoilt for... More

We've been eating at the vegie bar for over 10 years I must say if you rated the vegie bar only on its melas you it would without doubt rate it 10/10, unfortunately the customer services is always terrible! Why?? Who hires these waitresses? Billy you are lovely and welcoming but why are your staff so rude?

So many great options on the menu, it was hard to decide what to have but amazing knowing everything was vego friendly! Went with a group of friends who are not vegetarian and they loved their food too. Nachos were really delicious. Loved the vegan cheese, actually so tasty. Sat outside but it was ok as the heaters were on.... More

No problem with the food but the overall vibe is 'you should be grateful to eat here'. As for eye rolling the customer because they don't pay quick enough.......

As a vegan, I was expecting something not as mainstream as this. In a way the name is misleading....it of course is a vegetarian restaurant, but it really is just a restaurant with good food that happens to not contain meat. All good, especially the laksa.

Staying in Fitzroy

Neighbourhood Profile
Fitzroy is an unusual blend of working class roots, hip gentrification, and a robust bohemian work ethic. Along Brunswick Street and its side streets, you'll find little independent shops where local clothes and furniture designers display their wares. There are specialist bookshops, funky record bars, and quality vintage clothing shops where browsing is the next best thing to buying. Gertrude Street is famous for its cuisine and art galleries, but if you want to buy an old-fashioned snooker table, there is a shop for that too. Small pubs still exist, tucked away on the corners of suburban side streets that serve up traditional Sunday roasts. Live music abounds, and the street performers play so hard you worry to tip them would ruin their concentration. Venture to the Spanish quarter on Johnston Street and you may even find street dancing. It is all happening amidst off-beat street murals and the shuffle of a very funky neighbourhood that embraces both old and new.
