This must be one of the best pubs in Kent. The building itself is fascinating to enter - all beams and ancient fireplaces. The Sunday lunch was excellent, as was the service. One of Kent's beat kept secrets in the beautiful Elham Valley

Very good service from friendly, helpful staff. Food was barely ok: I have no idea what the "roast potatoes" were other than they were parboiled, un-roasted and discarded. Very unpleasant food for the price.

Lovely food in an historic setting. We have eaten here a couple of times since it changed hands and the food has been delicious. I would recommend the lamb rump if it is on the menu. If you are looking for more of a 'pub' menu try the sister pub The Gatekeeper in Etchinghill.

I am very fond of country pubs and historical buildings and this pub/restaurant does not disappoint. There is a good choice of vegetarian option. The food is tasty and the pub owners are really friendly.

A beautiful building and a very warm welcome, but we waited over 40 minutes for our food and when it finally arrived it was poor. Have had much better at a much lower price. A great shame.

Was very happy with the service and food, however wasn't sure if it was a pub or restaurant. Would recommend and go again.

Been here a few times. Recently taken over by the people who run the Cumberland (Barham) which is fantastic and the Jackdaw (Denton) which is ok-ish. Beautiful pub with good (but not great food).... but totally ruined by the tacky Fosters Lager Umbrellas out the front !! What are they thinking????? Could be so much better!
