Spent two nights in the twelve.. nice stay but the main attraction is across the road in donnelly’s.. staff are far friendlier.. big shout out to Aaron behind the bar.. being in the industry I would only love to hire this chap. So professional and...friendly and made our night. If they could make more barmen like him you’d be laughing!!! Great weekend!! No better pint of Guinness also. Well done guys! 👏🏻More

Ate there last sunday night. I had the veg soup and supreme roast chicken ,wife had baked haddock..soup was excellent as was the haddock . Chicken breast was off the bone with wing bone left and breast meat opened . It was the smallest breast...thatvi was ever served and dry served with roasted veg and potato gratin which was more like mash . Very disappointing . Service poor and unexperienced staff . Bring back the old experienced staff .More

We stayed in Barna and decided to give Donnelly's a try. It has a great neighborhood vibe with a fabulous menu. We went one night for a few pints and watch some sports and came back the next for a great dinner and traditional Irish...music. I'll go back the next time in Galway.More

Just across the road from our hotel, we popped in for a bowl of vegetable soup and a chowder at lunch which was very tasty, washed down with a small Guiness each. We had booked again for the evening s they had live music. We...shared a bowl of modules (quite large!) and had catch of the day, Hake. All of which was plentiful and tasty. Tried the local Hooker beer. Lots of locals in the pub. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A local 3 piece band, possibly father son and daughter arrived and played from 9pm until closing time. The young lady had a very good voice. They played a variety of songs from Athenry to Springsteen and encouraged the audience to join in and even lead the singing which several French women and a chap from Limerick did. Very enjoyable evening.More

Have dined in Donnellys on quite a few occasions and it has been anything from just ok to good. But last night our experience was excellent. We got one of the nicest tables in the house in one of the snugs. Our waitress, a young...lady from Salthill, was really charming and efficient, as were all the staff. Our meals arrived really quickly although we were warned that they might take a long time due to a big group in another room. The food itself was presented beautifully and we were all delighted with it. Pricewise, Donnellys is not overexpensive, compared to many other restaurants. Catch of the Day, hake served on a bed of gorgeous mash with good seasonable vegetables was €22.95....desserts about €6.95. Not so bad. Well done everyone (We've had a lot of bad experiences of late, mostly with bad staff)More

Had the pleasure of visiting my good friend in Galway last weekend and she had booked a table here on Friday night for dinner. We both had the Fish of the Day which was so fresh and tasty and served with gorgeous roasted veg and...mash potato. What a meal, I regularly eat out in some of the best restaurants in Cork and this matches any at much better value. George the Manager was on hand for advice on the perfect wine and we finished with Eton Mess, can't wait for my next trip to Galway to return here. The waiting staff were also attentive and the ambience was perfect . We'll done guys.More

Didn't feel like cooking yesterday evening so decided to get take away dinner from here. We ordered 2 chowders, 1 goats cheese salad, 1 fish and chips and 1 pasta dish all of which came to €75. It was expensive but I thought its good...quality food and it will be a proper dinner so the price didn't bother me too much until we got home and saw the size of the portions - they were tiny. The chowders at €10 each were like child's portions in the smallest take away bowls I've ever seen. The salad for €10.50 isn't worth talking about it was so miserable as were the other 2 dishes we ordered. I tried calling the restaurant but of course there was no answer. I understand the price of produce has increased but €75 is no joke for what we actually received. Galway was already an expensive place to eat out in but what we got yesterday was the definition of Rip Off Republic. Also, on a general note - take out prices should not be the same as dine in prices. Part of the cost you pay is for a restaurant experience which you don't get if you're ordering food to take away. Anyway, won't be going back and won't be recommending.More

Donnellys is a must visit while in the area. Declan the manager and all the staff are very professional, kind and friendly. We highly recommend the seafood chowder, cod and baby ribs. The malbec is delicious. The meal was great value.

Family of visited Donnellys for dinner. The food was good, but the service was not. The first thing I noticed was a massive TV above the table where we were to be seated. Tye TV flashing images are a distraction and tbh it’s a mystery...to me why you feel the need to have a massive TV flashing images above the heads of your customers ! It certainly does nothing to improve the dining experience. I’m guessing such TVs are fantastic for big match games but please … do not subject your customers to distracting imagery during dinner. There is no point. The fact the TV images include adverts for your restaurant, for paying customers who have already decided to spend the evening at your restaurant is bordering on being offensive. Way too commercial. Our drinks took forever to arrive, and side orders of food and a jug of water did not arrive at all. There should be no need for customers to order water, it should be replaced without the customer having to ask. I eventually had to stand up and walk to the counter to ask for service. That was out of frustration as dinner was supposed to be a treat for my family and all I wanted was for them to have a positive dining experience. Used dishes etc were allowed to accumulate on our table, and were only removed after I asked one of your employees to take them away after she satisfied herself that the table next to ours was free of soiled ware (btw that table was empty, with no customers). It didn’t occur to her to even look in our direction. I’m taking the time to write this feedback to help you improve. Donnelly’s was a very special place for both me and my family. I had lots of positive experiences there. I am confident fixing these table service issues is well within your capabilities. Thank You. Johnny, LimerickMore

3 of us went for lunch yesterday. Service was good; prompt and friendly. The food was only passable and very overpriced for what we got. Plate of the day consisted of a small piece to pan fried trout, unremarkable mashed potatoes and a small portion...of roast veg. 22.50euro. We were disappointed and won't be rushing backMore
