This restaurant is a must if your travelling to Galway. We stayed in the city but were told by friends to go to the west. They were not wrong, We went with their signature beef for two (which they age themselves) and was spectacular. The...sommelier selection was really fun and great value. Go West!More

At the very last minute we booked in for St. Patrick's day dinner. The staff was friendly and professional. We decided to "trust them" and chose the tasting menu. Definitely the right choice! We had a lovely private booth and the attention from the staff...could not be beat. Not to mention the quality of the food was tremendous. Every dish was better than the last. Making the night really special was, Fergal, the sommelier. His pairings were excellent and chatting with him really made the night for us. He was so knowledgeable and willing to share his insights. We would eat there again in a moment!More

We spent a lovely evening at West this last weekend (05MAR22) trying out their Tasting Menu. Every dish was interesting and tasty and there were so many little extras that we couldn't keep up! It was also really nice that the head chef brought out...two of the courses and took the time to chat with us! Overall a great experience that we would recommend to everyone!More

We were looking forward to our night out at West restaurant (upstairs). We had really high expectations given the reviews we read online. We travelled a long distance to check it out. My partner ordered the goats cheese raviolo with onion veloute. It was served...in a bowl. The onion veloute was everywhere, we couldn't see any of the other components of the dish. It was a sea of foam in a bowl. He couldn't taste the goats cheese. I ordered the crab for starter. It was nice but still underwhelming. For mains, we ordered the signature dish, a Cote de boeff for two. It was the first item on the mains menu, we thought we were on to a winner. We requested it to be cooked to medium. It was served to us rare. It came with a jus which was delicious and bearnaise sauced with blue cheese. There was big chunks of blue cheese in the sauce making it overpowering and we couldn't taste the bearnaise. The chips were advertised as triple cooked dripping chips. The tasted like cardboard with no crunch to them. The chips were cold. We are big fans of chunky vegetables, however, the other vegetables we were served were verging on raw side of crunchy. This included parsnips, brussel sprouts and baby potatoes. The veg lacked flavour. The cote de bouff cost us 72 euro. It is priced at 64 euro on the their website. We didn't order any desserts, we didn't want to be disappointed again. We were in and out of the restaurant and on our way home in 1hr 20 mins. Our highlights of the evening: The service was good and the staff very friendly and welcoming. The breads were delicious The jus was deliciousMore

Visited The West Re at 18:00 today and it was an amazing experience. General atmosphere is one of luxury, comfort and a relaxed atmosphere is present throughout the evening. The tasting menu presents several fresh, local and exciting flavours in amuses, before venturing on to...the best scallops we've ever tasted. The main course of lamb was just right with a lovely presentation again. After the main a foamy cloud, mixed with lemon ice cream, appeared which was light and delicious . The desserts were in line with the rest of the food, but we shared an extra one just to be sure. Wine pairings throughout were just right and felt natural. Fergal knows his wines and can recommended the right Redbreast to top the night off (ask for the one from the sherry barrels when in doubt). Looking forward to returning, but grateful for the entire team's efforts tonight. Thank you all.More

Went for the tasting menu. Had high expectations given all the reviews we had read. Presentation was good and staff friendly but genuinely felt food was average and lacked flavour.

My husband and I ate here as part of our stay mid-Nov. It was our third visit and our third attempt as previous bookings were cancelled due to Covid restrictions. We could not wait for our trip and our meal here. We were not disappointed....Having given prior notice that we were both vegetarian we were seated and presented with our own menu of options, such a rarity. Each dish celebrated a particular seasonal vegetable or local product, it was difficult to decide. We knew no matter what we ordered we'd be satisfied and we were. The attention to detail is second to none and the staff were so friendly and accommodating (without being overly so). If I was to pick out anything I'd highlight the Verbena Poached Pear and challenge the chef/mixologist to mimick these flavours in a cocktail, you'd never get me to leave. An absolutely stunning meal and we can't wait to visit again.More

Dinner on Saturday evening in the West restaurant was great experience. We booked for 6.30 and the place was quiet empty but after an hour it filled up completely. The staff was very nice and they nicely explained about the food. I had high expectations about...the place and I wasn't disappointed. We had as starter Raviolo and Brown Crab and as a main we shared Cote de Boeuf. Can't wait to come back!!!!!More

During a stay at the attached hotel, (The Twelve), we had the privilege to dine at this illustrious restaurant as part of the hotel experience. I have already reviewed the hotel in another review so would like to focus on this little gem within a...gem. On arrival we are presented with a display of produce that for some would be a little daunting but for a gastronomist it only started to set the scene for what we were about to experience. Greeted by a most friendly Maître D called Fergal,we were invited to chose a table that suited our preference and Fergal served us our menus with a masked smile and endearing demeanour. Food was, I can only say, perfectly presented throughout and seasoned to perfection. I have dinned in many top hotels with Michelin Star ratings and can say that this restaurant was near the top of the list for overall experience. To put this into context, we will drive 4.5 hours again just to have this experience one more time soon, at the least. Maybe then I can stop pinching myself that there is still, even during the Corona Virus pandemic, restaurants that are delivering 6 star food and doing it with staff who care about what they are presenting. I commend Fergal, his staff and the Chef for delivering culinary excellence during difficult times, and a special shout out to the humming (musically) Maître D, Fergal who explained the food so well we got to taste it before it arrived, in our minds. A very friendly and humorous experience Fergus ;), Opps I mean Fergal , thankyou for making our trip a talking point, you will not be forgotten. But Fergus can proud also, I believe he it the hotel Manger ;)More
