Second visit. Arrived 1108am for 1130am opening on a Tuesday morning and was 8th in line. Every bit as excellent as I remembered it to be. They are clearly devoted to making the best eel rice in town. Melt-in-your-mouth food heaven was the perfectly grilled eel + rice. Would definitely come back again

My husband is a huge eel fan so I was tasked with finding us at least one eel meal on our trip to Japan. He was very happy with my choice! Irokawa is a small traditional feeling restaurant that only serves one thing- grilled eel. There is an english menu. You choose between the regular or large eel over rice... More

This restaurant is run in family style, The restaurant only can accommodate around 12 customers .Only open business for lunch . The eel/Unagi is freshly prepare and grill by using charcoal. A large size of bento style Unagi will cost approx 4100 yen . Recommend to try if you come to visit Kaminarimon 雷門 . Within 10 mins walk from... More

The restaurant is located in a quiet side street (small entrance which can easily be missed), and it can sit about 12 people, like a typical small Japanese restaurant, with charcoal fire grilling the eel. We were asked to wait at the tatami-room at the back of the shop while waiting for a table. The owner was very friendly and... More

No doubt the eel is very delicious because it is freshly prepared and grilled in front of you. The restaurant is small to serve only 12 guests so be prepared to wait at least 1 hour and above, must. The price is not cheap too, large is 4100 yen! As a tourist and eel lover, it's worth!

This small little shop is just off the main road and is quite inconspicuous. The ambiance inside is quaint and if you sit at the bar, you get a great view of the operations. We ordered the large eel box set (¥4100) which is three strips of eel over a bed of rice. The smaller one (¥3000) has two strips.... More

We searched this place out because we heard it had been operating for decades, and the chef went to the fish market every morning to personally select the eel. The shop is on a quiet side street, and it is tiny, and the sign out front is only in Kanji, so we would have missed it completely if we hadn't... More

Located near Sensoji Temple around 10 mins walks. The restaurant is for around 10 customer. When you are walking near the restaurant, you will smell the eel grilled. It's better to wait at the restaurant before it's opened. Only 2 menu large or small boxes.

One of the best grilled eel i ever taste. It have english menu (just small of big bowl to select). The restaurant is too small it feel like eating in someone home. This place is very popular many people wait for lunch. the best way to get seat quickly is come at opening time.

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
