i can now understand that no matter what time of day you arrive to this restaurant, there is always at least 1/2 hour - 45 minutes wait to get a seat. definitely a must place to go if you are in ikebukuro, it is worth the wait. my first ramen was kanimisoaji-men - brown crab paste flavoured ramen with thick... My wife and I are both ramen fans, and we've been here twice since my wife is a big fan. I guess thousands of reviewers can't be wrong, but after all ramen preference is highly subjective. There are other ramen restaurants that I enjoy more than Mutekiya but my wife swears by it, and so we go and endure the... More

My friends invited me to try this Ramen. After I tried the ramen is so good. The taste is nice (no light no strong). They have a good service. But you must have a patient because they always have a long line to eat here.

The reviews don't lie. A must if you are around the ikebukuro area! Depending on when you go, line can be quite long but we'll worth the wait. The mutekiya ramen was delicious along with the hot pepper spice (still trying to figure out where to buy that) Highly recommended!

Lined up outside for about 45min before getting a seat inside. Ramen was great and the broth fantastic. We had our 1.5yo with us too and the staff were very friendly and accommodating despite the restricted space. Highly recommended; one of our best meals this Japan trip.

I spent 9 days in Japan in Osaka, kyoto and Tokyo and ate a lot of ramen in that time! I can honestly say this is without doubt the best there is. The wait was fairly long, about 45 mins, but trust me it's worth it! The pork is to die for!

First off, I'm not that into ramen. I was hoping to be swayed by real ramen in Japan. We got the house special ramen. It was good, probably better than any ramen I've had. But I'd still rate it at like an 8 out of 10. I guess I just prefer the Chinese and Vietnamese noodle dishes more. It's solid... More

I came here at 09:30 (it open at 10:30). Famous ramen shop with tiny space. Reasonable price with tasty soup.

Heard a lot of good comments before..so we decided to wait even the queue is Super Long..we waited for one hand the half hour in the Super cold weather..but it's worth for the wait. They will pass the menu and place order when you are queueing..so you can get your ramen less than 5 minutes once you get seated. Very... More

I came here at 9pm and queueing for almost 2 hours. Not worth if the wait is that long, but if only que for half an hour is ok. They are really popular because of the word of mouth, many ramen store that have the same taste even better. I prefer the Fuunji at Shinjuku, really special taste.

Staying in Ikebukuro

Neighbourhood Profile
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.
